Wow. I'm shocked that the Texans cut him after just signing him to a free agent deal this offseason.


He's played some good football for Miami the last couple years:

I'd sign him and dump Don Carey without losing any sleep...

TP... I'm gonna disagree with you on dumping Carey.


1) he can play anywhere in secondary, "in a pinch", if absolutely needed
2) he's one of the better special teams players we have
3) he's versatility should warrant him keeping a roster spot, especially when considering injuries to DB's are commonplace.


I'd take his NFL game experience, as a starter over say Bentley or Lawson, if either of those two had a season ending injury. He didn't play well this year in camp or pre-season but I'd hate to lose him at this point.

I agree that Carey's versatility is a plus, but he's a liability in coverage.


I suggested this on another thread, but I'd put Carey on IR (his hammy is injured right now, hasn't practiced in a while) and have him start bulking up to move to strong safety in next year's camp. Clears a roster spot without losing a player.


Imo, Clemons is just flat-out better at playing safety than Carey. He's bit and can fly and is more balanced between his coverage and run support.

Well if you draft late and sign UDFA. This is what you will get... workouts after camp is over. The Brady's and Sherman's happen every so often. Certain positions in the league draft early for a reason.

Carey is hurt, too, which leaves us with only 3 healthy safeties. Couplin is in line to start on Monday night...

I hope we sign Clemons- he's been a 'plus' starter for the last two years in Miami and would offers us competent depth at both safety positions. He's got the size for strong safety and the speed and range to play free safety.

I am more concerned with being a solid tackler.(at least with Giants game) Ha-HA could of had best 40 time at the combine, but speed does not help those grasps at air last night...

Yes besides his multiple trade up draft pick failures and drafting ebron not legitimately addressing the secondary has been his biggest problem.

His numbers the last two seasons show a lot of tackles for a safety, though I'd love to see some numbers on missed tackles over that span. I don't think he'd be in there much against the Giants, if at all, though, given how late in the week it already is. He wouldn't have time to learn the defense and calls and whatnot...

Safety Ihedigbo returned to practice Friday, Sept 5th, 2015. It sounds like he may be a go for Monday night and if not then it would be Abdul-Quddus or Couplin lll.
