Well, they had to try to do something at linebacker, so I'll give them credit for that. However, the last sentence of the rotoworld blurb says it all.

Lions signed LB Rocky McIntosh to a one-year contract.
30-year-old McIntosh worked out for the Lions early in training camp. In 16 games (nine starts) with the Rams last season, McIntosh notched 44 tackles and a sack. St. Louis didn't re-sign him because he's an ineffective player. Aug 17 - 9:24 AM

haha, love that last quip. However, our former secondary coach is now their D-coordinator, so I doubt he's the greatest talent evaluator.

Rocky was good with the skins up until 2011. Not sure what happened to him. He still has to be better than Travis Lewis.

Thats telling it straight, wish more people could handle the fact that not everyone that signs with the lions is awesome, in fact there are plenty of ineffectives as well.

Well shit, if Rotoworld says he's ineffective then why bother signing him?

From now on we should always consult with 3rd party websites filled with analysts who aren't talented enough to actually work in the NFL before signing anyone...

It's not R. McIntosh I have a problem with.

It's the fact they waited to address the OLB position when everyone realized it would be an issue. A. Palmer or some rookies. If you wanted a fallback position it should have been addressed earlier. Unless their is an injury we don't know about but thats a big if. R. McIntosh is a journey at this point in his career. He ads some value but this doesn't look to be just an insurance pickup.

He was signed because Corey Greenwood needs season ending shoulder surgery. Greenwood looked to be our 6th LB heading into the season and was a special teams stud. Apparently McIntosh is also a good special teams player. He also has plenty of starting experience.

As a late camp injury replacement we certainly could do a lot worse...

Seems like every player the lions ever sign is a good special teams player.....thats what scrubs in the NFL do.....if we had a decent defense and great offense, im all for signing good special teams players....hell mike thomas was a good special teams player.

If they brought Rocky in before camp I would say ok. But at this point I think I would wait for final cuts to do my bargain shopping.

When the Lions were coming off the 0-16 season I get the constant turnover looking for upgrades at every turn. But at this point in time I would hope the tweaking of upgrades would have been somewhat limited.

I admit I can be wrong here but this just further solidifies my opinion that Mayhew is not finding quality guys in rounds 3-7.
