this 5th year option, on Reiff, comes at a cost of 8,070,00.00 Big ones

“I think he can play multiple positions,” Mayhew said. “I feel very comfortable with him at left tackle and right tackle. I know there’s been a lot of debate about where he is and where he’s going to be. I’m comfortable with him at left tackle and I feel good about that.”

Mayhew said nothing is set in stone in April and May, but one thing is certain in regards to Reiff, he’ll be a Lion in 2015 and 2016. Mayhew said the team will pick up the fifth-year option worth $8.07 million in Reiff’s rookie contract before the May 3 deadline.

Nice, I was just talking to a guy aboot Reif's future.

Might not be the best LT around, but he's a good lineman and he's versatile.

You must be mistaken on that info BigBlue... There's a 0% chance of Reiff moving to right tackle, even though we have him under team control for the next two seasons... That's a 0% chance, mind you...

Good. 0% chance he gets moved to RT though. Place your bets now. :-)

Very good move by Mayhew. Now let's lock him up long term and draft La'EL Collins to play RT.

I would be shocked if Collins is there at 23 now. Mayock just put him at #1 for tackle position. Unless you are comfortable trading up to get him?

No, I agree w you. No way he gets to 23. Maybe Miami will grab him.

One thing I will say I believe Mayhew on. He is and can be a versatile OL. Now on comfortable with him at LT?? Not sure as he spoke differently earlier. Why so much talk about him elsewhere.

I would just be glad having Collins for the fact he is Reiff. A very versatile player. With Swanson and Collins and Reiff you have guys who can move along the line. Collins can play anywhere along the line IMO except maybe RG.
With Lucas and Waddle in the mix. I would love the look of the OL and depth and versatility all over. Been a long long time for that.

Detroit Lions' Riley Reiff: I'll play anywhere on the OL

Riley Reiff doesn't know which position he'll be playing when he reports for off-season workouts next month, and the Detroit Lions' fourth-year offensive lineman doesn't much care.

"People get overhyped about it, but I don't care," Reiff told the Daily Republic of South Dakota, after a weekend appearance at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire. "I like playing, and wherever they want to put me, that's fine. I'll play."

He is getting 8 mil in the last year of his contract plus several million this year. I wouldn't care either, LOL. Glad to actually hear it though.

They could always extend him between now and next new league year but the top 10 LT make 8.5M-12.2M avg.
Left Tackle Contracts and Salaries | Over The Cap

one thing for sure was that the Lions had bottom 1/4 salary cap for their OL, was 7th lowest at beginning of last year regular season. (Reiff, Sims, Raiola, Warford, Waddle). That will change in a couple of years.
