College. Whom you like? Whom you no like?

One of the CB positions not named Rogers is obviously the weakest position on the team (which isn't to say it's the biggest need), and this isn't a very clear cut class of corners. Random order:

Kirkpatrick looks like the first one off the board; seems like a poor man's Patrick Peterson. Highest ceiling, most natural talent. I think he'll be a good one, but he isn't the most consistent player I've seen...

Janoris Jenkins could have been the first guy off the board if he had his head on straight. He & Michael Floyd are going to go lower than their talent levels reflect 'cause they're trouble. The talent is there, but I say take one from Lane Staley & stay away from this guy altogether. He seems like such a moron it might be just a matter of time before he ends up in handcuffs...

I don't like Alfonzo Denard. I just don't. I like him less than Amakamura, and I wans't a huge fan of his either (I wans't surprised he went lower than projected). He's a good CB, but he isn't #1 material. JMHO.

Morris Clayborn is getting some hype lately, but I don't know that he has the speed to stay with NFL receivers. Looks like he has a high floor but low ceiling. I wouldn't use a 1st rounder on him. If he was considered the top guy on the board I'd trade down.

Cliff Harris... I don't know. (I should be charging for analysis like that!)

Chase Minnifield: I like him. Don't know that he'd be the #1 guy you want though. Great #2 probably.

Jayron Hosley: It's hard to tell with Virginia Tech CBs.

Stephon Gilmore: Could be the steal of the draft. But does an amazing pass rush make him look better than he is? I was going to say this draft class of CBs reminds me a little of 1998. Could he be the Sam Madison of the bunch? Or is he the RW McQuarters?

Xavier Rhodes: Probably won't come out this year.

Desmond Trufant: Seems like the forgotten CB this year. Terrible tackler, but he seems like his coverage skills are pretty good. Don't think he'll be a 1st rounder, might be a good guy on whom to take a chance a little later.

Thoughts?

I'm a big Cliff Harris fan. I think he's the best cover corner in the draft. I really like the fact that he mostly plays man coverage. I also like how he turns into the receiver when the ball is in the air, then how he turns into Devin Hester with the ball in his hands. He'll move up after the combine, but maybe his speeding violations/suspension and having to earn his starting job back will let him drop to us. His weight concerns wont be a problem since he's a cb.

Jayron Hosley looked pretty good against the U today.

say we pick 21st and still on the board are players we project as 'franchise', they're all equal value and 'franchise', so who do we take? an LT, CB, or WR? going by what you see on this team now and what you project rest of season, what spot do we fill first?

purposely leaving out QB for obvious reasons.

I don't know if I could answer that in generalities, but if it's Matt Kalil VS Blackmon VS Kirkpatrick I go Kalil as fast as I can run up & deliver that card.

All things being equal and the drop-off being equal, I go LT. I don't see a "franchise" LT falling that far but if there I take it, hit CB in the next round, maybe next two rounds.

I don't think a wr in the 1st is even a question. With Edwards missing so much time I think we'll be able to resign him for a very reasonable price. We'll have Edwards, Crabtree and Kyle Williams at the least. If we do hang on and win the division I don't see any LT that is worth it falling. You almost have to go cb to get value with so many talented cb's, as well as filling a need.

It would be very difficult to pass up a LT, so I'd probably go that way. CB would be a close second, and WR would be a distant 5th, maybe lower? I'd rather have another mid-first quality OLB or NT than a franchise WR.

I'll let the folks who dedicate much more time than me pick the names and order....but my positions of concern are:

CB: We're better than we've been in terms of talent and depth, but every time an opposing QB goes back to pass, the hair stands on the back of my neck.
LT: As many picks as we've invested in our line, I was really expecting much more at this point. Disappointing.
NT: Our front 7 has been great so far, but I'd love a beast in the middle.
QB: I'm still not sold on anyone on our roster. Serviceable, possible. Elite, probably not. Again, we're better than we've been in the past, but I'd like more out of this position. This wish may still be a couple years away....I have a feeling staff is more comfortable with what they have than I am.

at the 21st pick, we'll most likely have to move up to get a player. or move down for extra picks to address the poor drafting over the years. things will change before the draft but right now i see the 20-30 area being a deadzone this year.
