An ERA over 4 doesn't always indicate a lack of talent. Sometimes, as is the case with Gausman, it just indicates a young pitcher who is inconsistent. Gausman can absolutely be a shut-down pitcher when he's on his game. His talent is unquestionable. Another good example is Carlos Rodon- talented pitcher, bad ERA.
