I'd agree. Would hate to waste his arm though. He's built nicely for a first baseman. My way too early assessment of how I see things playing out position wise for next season.

1) Choo may be playing himself into a position where the Rangers aren't looking to deal him this winter. If that's the case, Gallo is going to find it difficult to break into the outfield next season with Mazara ascending through the ranks.

2) Mazara will make a strong case to be the Rangers starting LF during ST, but will start at Round Rock as Hamilton will be the opening day LF. With that said, the second Hamilton goes down with an injury, Mazara will get the call and frankly may not let the position go.

3) Rua will get a lot of time at 3b in Round Rock. I think the organization still believes he can be a ML player, but he's just been jerked around a bit. Beltre will be our starting third baseman next season, but he will spend time on the DL and we'll need an able replacement. If the organization wants to move Gallo to 1b post Moreland, my guess is they're hoping Rua or maybe Profar can be ready to take the reigns in 2017 at third base.

4) Gallo needs some time to come around. He still hasn't gotten on track at Round Rock like we'd hoped he would, and with that in mind, I see no reason to expect that he'd be expected to break ST with the big club, and will need to show improvement at AAA next season before the club looks at giving him a spot in the lineup.

These are good assessments. I agree with #1 for sure as Choo playing better has coincided with our playing better. I even like how he has played in RF for the past month or so. On #2/3 I think that is accurate too but I might add that the emergence of Mazara at the AAA level may have caused the Rangers to rethink having Rua in LF. So moving him back to 3rd would be better overall for the Rangers and for Rua. There really is not a place for him at 2nd with Odor, Alberto and eventually Profar.

I think what Choo is doing should make them that much more willing to trade him this offseason. He may never have a higher trade value. We would have to throw in less money per year than we would later on and we might even get a decent prospect back. He is still subject to playing the way he did earlier this year and he still is the same person who disrespected the manager and gave that very poor effort on that one play a couple of months ago. I agree with what you said about him earlier this year when you said we should launch him to the moon.

Maybe Choo has changed for the better and still not the same person......Maybe it was pressure to live up to the contract. It sounds like you think he is blocking the path of prospects. To me, this manager and FO will give the young guys a chance when ready or needed. If Gallo stayed hot he still would have been up here but he still has a little seasoning needed.

I am glad the Rangers have not given up on him or shot him to the moon. They being said if we get good value not just a decent prospect then perhaps he gets moved. We could still improve at catcher and outfield. Maybe a guys comes up to fill that OF spot. Mazara will get his shot in ST I think

Arrieta is having a great year. If not for Greinke he could be the front runner for CY.

For those of you who play fantasy baseball (and even for those of you who don't), I've got the all-time kick in the nuts for you. This was the final week of our big money league regular season. Regular season champ gets $1,000. I was in first place needing only a tie or win this week to claim the $1,000. I had an insane lead on my weekly opponent heading into tonight's Cubs-Dodgers game. It's a points-based league and mathematically the only way I could lose was if Jake Arrieta threw a no-hitter with more than 11 K. So of course he throws a no-hitter with 12 K, with the 12th K coming on the final out of the game.

I don't even know where to begin on calculating the odds of any pitcher throwing a no-hitter with that many K, and even if I could do the math I don't think I'd want to know what insane odds I just succumbed to in losing the $1,000.

If someone says to you "I'll give you $1,000 as long as pitcher X doesn't throw a 12+ K no-hitter tonight", how many times do you win that bet? 1,000 out of 1,000? 10,000 out of 10,000?

Sickening.

Well eventually he will be blocking someone. Not sure exactly when. I just know everyone was really wanting to get rid of him a couple of months ago and I still do. I doubt he is making any major personal improvements at his age. His production will only get worse from here on out if he follows the way of nature like most other ballplayers do. He isn't getting any younger. I am done with him now as much as I was 3 months ago. He will have more and more bad streaks and he has proven to not have a very good attitude when things don't go his way. To the moon with him and hopefully the moon will send back something for him.

I applaud his improvement since the AS break, but quite frankly since about that time last year he has had nowhere to go but up. Yeah he was hurt last year, but he stunk. He was awful to begin this season as well, and yes he had a large contract to try and live up to, but that didnt mean he was excused from acting an ass to the manager and organization. That said I think the other teams and GM's see exactly what you and I have, and I still don't think anyone is rushing to take on the years and money he is owed. JD will still have to get creative in moving him IMO, and the return again will not likely be much. Maybe someone takes him with cash thrown in from the Rangers and he returns another BP arm or prospect, we shall see. Then again they could hold on to him until others prove ready and move him at the deadline next year, who knows

That sucks man! Fantasy sports can be a giant kick in the dick so many times, that sometimes I find myself asking is it really all that fun. Injuries and so many things factor into one being LUCKY enough to win, that sometimes as in this case, its almost like it isn't fair and you feel robbed. Guess its just really that anything can happen and Ive seen crazy things lots of times. This one is right up there at the top though, and again thats too bad for you. Hopefully there is something else that goes your way soon!

While Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton has been able to take batting practice, he has not been cleared to begin running, reports the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He has been sidelined since Aug. 20 with left knee inflammation.

"It feels OK to throw and hit on the knee," he said. "I just haven't gotten to the important part where I can run or jog. That's the next step."

Rangers SP Derek Holland throws complete-game shutout

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer

Derek Holland was dominant on the hill for the Rangers on Sunday, tossing a complete-game shutout to help Texas earn a key victory over the Orioles.

Holland threw 116 pitches, allowing just four hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out 11. It's by far the most impressive start for Holland since returning from spinal fusion surgery 11 days ago.

Holland threw first-pitch strikes to 23 of the 31 batters he faced to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Something tells me Elliot doesnt follow the Rangers much

Now that was sad. Didn't get the hits allowed right or the surgery. The guy must do a lot of research on his subject matter.

The Rangers are moving closer to having four catchers on the roster.

Carlos Corporan rejoined the club and will come off the disabled list Tuesday, when the roster limit increases to 40. Corporan has been on the disabled list since July 13 because of a sprained left thumb. The club “expedited” his rehabilitation program, manager Jeff Banister said, so that Corporan can serve as a needed third catcher.

Robinson Chirinos, who has started 69 games at catcher, will join Triple-A Round Rock on Monday and could begin an injury-rehab assignment on Tuesday. Chirinos has been on the disabled list since July 31 because of a strained left shoulder.

There are no plans to start Corporan, and Banister did not indicate what he will do when Chirinos returns. The Rangers are 19-9 with catchers Chris Gimenez and Bobby Wilson, both of whom joined the club on July 31.

“We’ve got a nice rhythm going now with our guys,” Banister said.

I agree. Don't mess with a good thing.

ARLINGTON — Delino DeShields reached base six times in 13 plate appearances during the three-game sweep of Baltimore. The Orioles were most impressed by one hit.

In the third inning on Saturday, DeShields beat a throw from strong-armed third baseman Manny Machado to reach on an infield single. That triggered a three-run inning.

Scouts at the game timed DeShields at around 3.7 seconds to first base, a remarkable speed for a right-handed hitter. Machado said he made his best throw, and DeShields outran it.

“Anybody can beat a throw if you hustle, and he’s done that,” Machado said. “I like the way the kid plays.”

Machado, in his fourth major league season, is one month older than the rookie DeShields. Both are 23.

=========
I appreciate Machado giving props to someone on the other team but found it funny that he called him kid since they are both the same age.

Sherrington: Hey D-FW, it's time to start paying these Rangers the attention they deserve

Part of the problem is the media. You go to ESPN Dallas and the main story is the RB tandem for the Cowboys and not Holland and the Rangers. You turn on the radio it is about the Cowboys the majority of the time.

You hit the nail on the head. We could turn right around and tell the local media and ESPN "hey, give the Rangers the attention they deserve."

I'm excited for football, but I'm way more excited about the Rangers right now.

I see your avatar and title and I got to thinking about the 2 players from Miss St Univ that both played for the Rangers at 1st base (Thunder and Lightning) and was thinking it is too bad that we could not just overcome the Palmeiro drug hearing in front of congress and have a big day in his honor. I know he has not come back with anything concrete to back up his story that he did not take the steroids intentionally but there is also no proof he did plus he passed a polygraph test and what he did as a Ranger and player is incredible. He was my oldest sons favorite player as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles helped with that. I know he is in the college baseball hall of fame and I believe he is the only college player to ever win the triple crown. Both he and Will Clark had beautiful swings.

My bad-only SEC player to win triple crown
