The defense really let AJ down last inning.

Hopefully they pick him up with a run here.

Bad management by Hurdle, bad roster management by NH. This has been a dissapointing series.

get rid of qualls,
let one of our young guys step up.
we have eager and capable arms that need experience, opportunity, pressure, and evaluation. this way they can work on stuff and be ready to appropriately fill holes in 2013 right out of the gate.

This is a shame after the big win over the Cards. They need to pull this one out and the hardest part of this all is the Braves keep losing and the Pirates can't gain ground.

So very much so this. We had two guys make their ML debuts, strike out 4 combined (was it 5?), only give up a few hits, no runs...but yeah, let's bring in Qualls in a tied game, because we don't want people to think that was a silly trade! Hurdle handcuffed himself in the 19 inning game by making some odd decisions (like using some relievers before going to Correia), but in that type of game it's understandable. But tonight he just continues to show he's just NOT A GOOD MANAGER. He's a great coach, but when the big decisions are left up to him, he screws it up. I honestly do think he's lost more games than he's won for this club. Hopefully some of the roster moves will be simpler once September hits. More flexibility at least.

Hard luck and Hurdle combined to produce last night's loss. AJ for sure pitched a lot better than the result suggested.

We've got to win tonight, though. JMac needs to stay on track.

DK going on a rant on twitter. Criticizing fans for not criticizing NH along with criticizing Hurdle. He's trolling hard today. I usually like his stuff, not right now.

I was following it too. He's trying to play Mark Madden today it seems.

A few thoughts.....

- First two games of this Padre series have been very disappointing after taking two of three from the Cards. Maybe this team just isn't good enough to compete yet.

- I, too, wonder about roster management over the past couple of days. The ONLY reason I can see for returning McPherson and Wilson to Indianapolis is to help with Indy's playoff aspirations. (But I wonder how much value Huntington should give to that vs. the Pirates' playoff aspirations.)

- I didn't understand the McGehee-for-Qualls trade at the time, and I don't understand it now. I DO understand Huntington's belief that Gaby Sanchez holds more value than Casey McGehee as the RH hitting side of our 1B platoon (although Sanchez can't play 3B). Obviously, time will tell if that assessment is correct. At any rate, I gotta believe that the Pirates could have acquired someone of greater potential than Qualls for McGehee. Heck, even Juan Cruz, as shaky as he's been, has FAR outperformed Qualls..... and Cruz has been DFA'd.

- There seems to be plenty of blame to go around. Cutch has essentially disappeared in a bunch of key RBI situations.

To be honest, I thought AJ was average at best. I couldn't believe he batted in the sixth with men on second and third with one out.

Plus they are both better pitchers than both D-Cutch and Qualls. Also, where is Chris Leroux, and why isn't he on the roster yet?

A sweep indeed! (Ooops.)

What a sorry performance by the Pirates. Maybe they just can't handle 19-inning games.

Yea, I don't get him, sometimes, actually a lot of the time, he is insightful and has a great perspective on the Pirates. And then sometimes he starts trolling. He'll overplay one side of an argument, to make himself look balanced, or at least that is what it seems like. Pretty much anyone who has followed the Pirates this year knows Qualls and McCutchen shouldn't be on the team.

Win or lose, those long extra inning games could be a killer. The Braves collapsed last year after winning the 19 innings game against the Bucs.

My biggest beef with management right now is this: the 25 best players available to the Pirates aren't on the team. Why in the WORLD do we care about Indy's postseason when we don't even know what our own looks like. They're playing it safe and making sacrifices at the MLB level, which is completely bass ackwards. You have developmental leagues to DEVELOP TALENT for the MLB level. I couldn't care less about how Indy does in the postseason. Them winning means nothing.
