Short and sweet -

I say we start slow and see where things head. Instead of going all out right from jump street with individual teams. I say we narrow it down to division boards and let the recruiting begin!

In case it matters....I know I could bring in 50-100 new posters with division boards.

I've been on the fence, and I've heard some good arguments both for and against.

Pro:
It will bring more hockey fans into the mix.
It's nice to have a board for fans of a specific team.

Against:
It will water down the general board, which has been fantastic so far.

The real question is this: Will having team boards make it more or less entertaining to current and future members?

I'm going to go golfing in 95 degree heat, so I'll read up on this later.

It's really up to you all. GO WHALERS!

I feel some team boards will get used a lot, others not so much. Regardless I dont see a real reason to create them until close to the start of next season.

I think division boards would work pretty well, and I really don't think that it would water down the general board becuase the topics, atleast for me and other caps fans, would be about line combos or rumors regarding the caps and nothing more

I probably wouldn't post much on a team or division board. That being said, I wouldn't be opposed to something like that.

Not a bad idea

Never cared too much for the team board. Same ***, same people, different day there. And plenty of them to go around.
Team boards are literally a dime/dozen and everywhere.
I like that idea of division boards. It's something different.

I think with individual team boards, you may get new members who only post on them, but as far as I'm concerned, the general board is fine, that's where I'll be posting.

I don't think we have a glut of threads on the main board at this point and I like hearing about the issues of the Flames, the Kings, the Rangers, or whatever team fan is posting on them. I probably won't go look at 30 different boards to find those if there are team boards and they would take away from useful hockey-related threads from the main board in the process, meaning the main board will be a lot more OT/joke stuff, and a lot less good discussion and content.

I think you need a critical mass of content to keep a board interesting and team boards would take away some from that critical mass. I think we all know the other posters who are fans of our favorite team and keep an eye out for their posts and stuff on our own teams anyway.

Besides, I think the team boards would be mostly dormant save a few teams on there.

So to sum up:

PROS: Useful team boards for a handful of teams
CONS: More work for SportsHoopla Hockey, less hockey content on the main board, more work for posters to find content, more boards for the mods to have to patrol, less sense of community

Until you reach a point where the main board has so much content it is difficult to parse through it and find what you need, I don't think team boards are very useful. Until we consistently have 50+ posters online (we typically have 10-20 at present), I don't think we are at that point.

That's my two cents. :)

30 Team Boards, with only about 3-5 of them seeing any significant posting on them.

Eh, I can take it or leave it.

It doesn't mater to me if we have them or not. I rarely posted on the team board at the other place but when I did check it out a few times I was surprised that so many of them posted only on the team board.

Half of the name's there I had never seen yet they had high post counts and found that interesting.

I'm not sure there is a need for them yet. Do we have enough posters to make use of team boards and keep the general board going? Division boards do sound interesting.

I hate team boards. It removes the bar-atmosphere of having a drunk sitting next to you, cheering for the other guy.

Why not just have a team thread? Say I create the "Official Atlanta Thrashers Team Thread" then all the Thrashers fans on the board can flood the thread with talk about the Thrashers. Line combos, UFA targets, prospects, and all that jazz. Having one thread would also prevent fans of the Thrashers from flooding the main board with several threads about the Thrashers.

Hockey team boards would make a lot more sense at this point.. but who could have imagined the mass exodus that happened w/ the hockey board 6 months ago. I never really wanted or cared to have NBA shit here but I guess the NBA is "more popular".. There is already a lot of unused space with a lot of these team boards and taking some of them away will mess with the site map now. I vote to let it roll for awhile but do think that the hockey board should be brought closer to the top to create more interest in the general page. Our most popular boards should be at the top and not the bottom.

But that isn't an issue on this board (we haven't been overwhelmed with threads for any one team), and there's no reason to have 30 stickied threads. Besides, I don't want to have to dig in every team threads just to get some news about signings and whatnot. If you want to discuss lines or prospects or whatever, a normal thread shouldn't be a problem.

If we get a bunch of new posters, enough that it hinders the general board, then someday i say make team boards. We have a relatively small group here that gets along just fine and we all know each other. We have all we need for now.

Like everybody has already said, get the right amount of posters first and then branch out. Would be a waste of time right now.. Besides everybody here already post's in other teams GNT'S so let's just keep it neutral for now.
