LOL .... didn't want to sound greedy .... thought taking PHILTH out in four was all I should ask four ...... but now that you mention it ...... yeah .... sweep the Spankies .....

My favorite NYY moment was BOS coming for 3 down to take them out ....

I know the whole enemy of my enemy thing, but you even find Yankees' fans more annoying than Boston's fans? They're pretty even for me. I just root for a tie, so they feel like they're kissing each other. Wait. How do these sayings go? ;)

If the Red Sox miss the playoffs it will be among the worst if not the worst late season collapses ever:

September Collapse of Red Sox Could Be Worst Ever - NYTimes.com

They've gone 5-16 in their last 21.

Makes our 'collapse' look a little better, as they didn't have nearly the injury bug we did. And this is after they started the season like what, 0-11? Thought they could cruise to the playoffs...

I'm not sure who I'll be rooting for, but I know I'll be rooting against the phillies and the yankees.

I always root against both of those teams also...but I find myself completely bored by matchups not involving the big boys.

In other words, while I'm enjoying watching the BoSox struggles, I would much prefer to watching them over the Rays.

A Tigers/Phillies would have star players/great pitching, and a no-brainer team to root for. And I happen to like the color of the unis. ;)

Rep.

BTW: isn't it fucking brilliant that ESPN The Mag comes out with this Boston is winning everything issue (!), and shortly after the BoSox find themselves in an historic choke job? Simply beautiful.

I used to love Sox fans. Long-suffering, good baseball fans, many of them of Irish ancestry, rooting against the team we all hate (Yanks). Let's just say that with all the winning, New England fans have lost their charm.

(Stokes: insert Princess Bride rhyme)

Yeah! Have to agree 100%. Since I also live in NY and Freeport does as well we've probably experienced the same thing.

Yankee fans are a few steps past annoying on a good day. I actually think they are worse than the Philth fans. Living in NY also provides us with a close up and personal view of a NYY mindset. It sucks!!!!!

These are the same fans that wanted Bonds' head on a platter for 'cheating' but really didn't say much of anything when it came to AROD.

Just can't stand the NYY or their facking fans. If they win the series this year - it's going to be unbearable - just facking unbearable!

Fair enough, fellas. I'll take your word for it. Maybe West Coast Boston fans are significantly more annoying than their East Coast brethren, but I don't see how that could be the case. ;)

EDIT: It's probably just more likely that West Coast Yankee fans are more subdued. Front-running d-bags occasionally avoid stepping on toes for fear of being called out on their bandwagon antics. Almost a quarter billion in payroll. Insane.

I think you've actually hit on the answer. I'm an East Coast Giant fan. From what I've seen on the boards I'm more laid back than most of the West Coast Giant fans. I think it's do the exposure the team has to me. I follow the Giants through these boards and on MLB Gamecast. I don't see them on TV much. I only see them live when they are in NY. Our media coverage is only about the NY teams. Very sheltered in a way. These boards are generally positive in nature. Even if we lose there is always the 'silver lining' aspect of the game itself. We lose 10-3 but Panda goes 3-4 with a HR. These boards make being an East Coast Giant fan very enjoyable. Almost each and every GDT that followed a loss ended with - We'll get them tomorrow! Really can't ask for more ..

I think this board has self-selected for people that love to follow the team but don't take it so crushingly serious that every loss is some kind of tragedy. We know it's a 162 game season.

The main thing that made DumDumVille so dumdum was (besides the trolls) how many of the fans were of the Marcus/Nolan type (not just those 2) bitching after each loss about the season being over, or the umpires, or player so-and-so being terrible because he makes an error, etc.

Also, to be fair, we're all mellowed out on the fumes of the 2010 championship. We'd have been a lot more on edge on this board without it.

+1. There are definitely crazies on both coasts, too. I prefer the healthy emotional investment to the unhealthy one that seems to be more prevalent on the East Coast, in general, but anyone, anywhere is capable of taking things too far.

In my opinion, anytime the emotional response to a game impedes or devolves personal growth, it has gone too far, but certainly, there can be different interpretations.

I'm right there with you. I have Sox over Phillies. I haven't seen a mental collapse like that since the 2010 Padres.

Been that long, eh?
