2 more get paid

ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that the Rays are in agreement on a five-year, $50 million contract extension with Blake Snell.
Snell expressed disappointment earlier this month when the Rays committed just a $573,700 salary to him for the 2019 season, but now the 2018 American League Cy Young Award winner gets a well-deserved payday. This new deal will cover this year, all three of his arbitration years, and one year of free agency. There are no club or player options, and the contract does not include a no-trade clause. It's the biggest extension ever given to a player with two years of service time.
who knew 50 mil is a steal

s report that the Cardinals and Paul Goldschmidt are closing in on an extension of at least five years and $130 million.
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the deal will be finalized by Saturday, and is pending a physical. Goldschmidt was acquired by the Cardinals in a deal with the Diamondbacks this winter, and owner Bill DeWitt Jr. mentioned this January that he was interested in signing the 31-year-old to a long-term extension. It appears that they've done just that. A five-year deal would pay Goldschmidt through his age 37 season, so it'll be interesting to see how his skill set deteriorates -- or possibly doesn't. Either way, the Cardinals should be very pleased with Goldschmidt's production for this year and at least the first couple years of the deal.

Red Sox signed LHP Chris Sale to a six-year, $160 million contract extension.
Sale passed his physical on Friday to make the deal official. He'll still earn the $15 million that he stood to make for the 2019 campaign, but they chose to override the 2019 option for luxury tax purposes. He'll earn $30 million per season from 2020-2022 and $27.5 million in 2023 and 2024. The deal also includes an opt-out after the 2022 season, where he could choose to explore the free agent market prior to his age-34 season.

That's a bargain for Snell. He'd make triple that on the open market.

That’s a lot of money to pay 2 aging lefties after this run is over. Frankly hope for one great year m and then sell after half the roster leaves in fa to rebuild the worst farm system in baseball

Yeah, that's a good deal for Snell. A top pitcher at 10 million a year is a bargain IMO.
