and they won the world series. Today the Giants called up a rookie catcher... BREAKING NEWS: Giants purchase contract of C Hector Sanchez, place Pat Burrell on DL | Extra Baggs

Pat the Bat on the DL, Hector Sanchez called up.

So now that there are 3 catchers (4 if you consider that Pablo can catch if it's necessary,) what is their next move?

What do you think the Giants have planned by making this move? Is Sanchez going to be trade bait and he's just being showcased?

My guess is that they don't want to stand pat on the Whiteside/Stewart situation anymore and they're getting ready to cut one of them and recall Belt as well. Obviously that would hinge on Sanchez coming up and outperforming at least one of them, and is fully dependent on the market for Catchers being so weak.

What do you think they're planning?

I think part of it is positioning for leverage with the Reds on Hernandez. Sabean is saying "fuck you guys and your high demands for a backup catcher, we've got minor league depth."

That, or they really believe in Chez3. He's not ready for ML catching is what Decker says, though. And he hasn't really hit for any power in AAA.

Interesting.

With the way this trading market is shaping up, I could see Sabean doing that a lot. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if due to everybody having high demands, no trades are made by the Giants FO. If Sanchez hits and more teams aren't "out of it" in the next couple weeks, I'd expect (or rather want) something like this to be our everyday lineup:

LF Belt
2B Fontenot
3B Pablo
1B Huff (expecting a 2nd half revival)
CF Ross
RF Nate
C Sanchez
SS Crawford
P

This lineup would certainly combat Sabean and Bochy complaining that we are "too right handed"

Not sure about the move.
Sanchez was single A San Jose last season, and now in the bigs??
Seems as though they have something up their sleeves.

Potentially great OBP with decent speed, why not?...I admit that Bochy probably wouldn't do it, but I'd like to see it. If Torres doesn't start swinging the bat better, then who is really a better option?
