1) Isaiah Thomas, 2) Kobe Bryant, 3) Carmelo Anthony, 4) Julius Randle, 5) Pau Gasol. Thoughts?

That's a solid lineup, especially if Randle plays to expectations. Don't know if it is a title contender, but they'd be a tough out in the playoffs.

A very deep playoff team. And if the chemistry does work out I don't see why they can't be contenders.

I'm not a Melo guy as I do not think he brings it on the defensive end. Plus, he likes the ball in his hands and in the immediate we all know (and hear the talking heads) suggest this is combustible with an aging Kobe Bryant.

I think signing Melo is a short term, PR move by the franchise but does not address the long term issue of winning. In Melo's prime he has never won anything other than a few deeps runs with George Karl and the Nuggets (a solid supporting cast). I understand the roster in New York is weak, but they were still a .500 team.

So, I don't get it. I'm sure I'm in the minority in this, but I hoe Melo goes elsewhere and we build this team with depth, not star power.

I think its more like isiah thomas, kobe, Nick Young, randle, sacre. Maybe squeak in as 7 or 8 seed

Melo would have led the Nuggets to the Finals at least once if not for the Lakers.

I have been saying something similar on another thread lasportz. Everyone knows that I am not big on chasing either FA, James or Anthony.

Okay... so you're saying what I said, he's never won a ring?

Good luck signing depth with what's left this year. The Lakers want to win now, 'Melo is the quickest way to that.

Melo is not the perfect player and I think we all agree on that. However, what is our better option? How many of those guys are out there? Melo is the type of guy who can contend for the scoring title on a good team. I'll take 27pts and 8 boards from my small forward any night of the weak. Plus, bringing him in allows Kobe to be more of a facilitator and allows him to be more patient and have better shot selection.

I love this lineup. I also think this is the lineup we will have. I predict we find out within the next 24 hours that Melo is LA bound.

Let's just pass on Kevin Love and Kevin Durant next year too, I mean they 'haven't won a title in their prime'.

Let's build with depth because the Spurs make it look so easy!

:fify:

Karl in my opinion is one of the most overrated coaches around
He routinely got out coached during the playoffs
How any team would want him as a coach is beyond me unless all they care about is the regular season

I agree 10000% He only cared about the regular season, but the media (ESPN)will always kiss an ex-coaches butt no matter how many times they come up short. He got bounced in the first round as the favorite too many times.

?!?

Sacre as the starting center?!?

I'll have whatever you're smoking.

not so far fetched. No melo or no lebron then gasol walks in my opinion. Who's left as far as big men? Jordan hill. Will probably want multi year deal. I imagine if they miss on both carmelo and lebron they won't commit to long term deals hoping to try again in 2015. But by all means laugh now

Sacre was coming on at the end of last season to some degree. He was playing pretty good defense and his 15-footer was beginning to come around. Sure he needed to work in the off-season on a lot of his shots. If I remember correctly he hit a couple of threes now and then but he wasn't expected to be a three-pointer shooter. I could see him having a pretty good year as these things go.

I don't think he'll ever be an all star, but I think Sacre ( if allowed to play significantly ) can be a solid starter (12&10).
