Future Flyer Cup-Winner
Once again we find ourselves at that most glorious of days. Today we start fresh. Every team is tied for the lead. Every team has hope. Will this be the year your team makes it to the playoffs, or further in them? And the individual players are looking to excel as well. Young players hope to make their mark in a new league, while veterans hope to continue their successes. Who will step up and distinguish themselves from the competition? Who will prove to be the next young star, or rebound from injuries or slumps? Who will drag their team along with them to greater heights?
Fans are excited. A new season, a new chance to root for the orange and black, or le blanc et le rouge, or whatever colors their team might wear. Even those of us who support the less successful teams anticipate the season. Each game has great plays, whether it be a single backbreaking hit, a beautiful wrist shot, a goalie diving to protect his net, a brilliant pass, a selfless shot block, or any of the millions of little things that players do to help their team. A play as simple as hustling to the bench at the end of a shift can be the difference between victory and defeat.
And then there's the whole point of it all. The Stanley Cup, the single greatest trophy in all of sports, dented or not. For some, it's their last shot at a Cup. Not everyone wins one, and some are destined to enter and leave without ever raising it above their head. Which team will step up and write the history books? We'll find out, starting tonight.
Hockey is BACK!
