on tsn.ca/nhl there is a video called - Fixing a Mistake
Brian Burke explains why he traded Kris Versteeg and insists the Leafs aren't finished dealing.

so if he thinks Versteeg is a mistake after 53 games what is Phil Kessel after 1 1/2 years?

wow Im stunned by this statement.

“He reminds me of the Wizard of Oz,” former Edmonton Oilers coach Craig MacTavish once said of Burkie. “You comb his hair, put a white shirt on, wheel him out in front of the camera and he’ll say whatever you guys want.”

"we're not throwing in the towel"?
has he seen the standings?

10 points back, 4 teams to pass, and running at 4 wins in their last 10.
time to borrow a quote from Roberto Duran.

this would have been a superb follow up question to Burke ... and if it wasnt asked in the scrum, TO media have pretty much shown they enjoy getting down onto their knees with this guy

Didn't realize Burke had such personal discussions with Mr. and Mrs. Versteeg. I guess Mr. Versteeg should have pulled out.

"I remember when I was a rookie GM," Burke explained, "I asked [former Bruins GM, coach and current President] Harry Sinden back in '92 and I said "Any advice?" He said "Yeah, when you make a mistake and get a player that's not working it, fix it. Kris just didn't mesh here."

So I guess Komisarek, Kessel and Phaneuf are working just perfectly then huh Burke?

I really don't understand why this guy got so much credit for building the Ducks. Now I dislike Bryan Murray but he did all the work and Burke got all the credit for it.

he got an absolute gift in Pronger and Neidermayer.
that'll put any team in position.. and Giggy was perfect for a month.

punk got lucky.

(he did orchestrate getting the Sedins for Van, but he also had a hand in putting us in the position to have a top 2 draft pick - most blame for the dark years still goes to Keenan & Messier)

The reason is simple, many people forget or don't realize that Murray really built that team.

Interesting fact about that team. Burke offered the Islanders a 1st round pick for Jason Blake. Snow said no. The Islanders ended up acquiring Ryan Smyth & making the playoffs as the 8th seed. Jason Blake could have had a Stanley Cup ring.

LOL!

Speaking of Leafs, remember 4 games in they'd win the Cup?

Yeah, people just don't realize that Murray really built that team I guess and the fact that he did build the Ducks might allow him to stay on as GM of the Sens. There's actually been a few rumors that Murray and Clouston might both end up staying believe it or not...

Interesting about Blake and also interesting that he ended up going to the Ducks eventually...lol

Was Versteeg really a mistake? Given how bad the team is, and given his age and contract, I think it would have been in Burke's best interest to hold onto him...

+1. sure's he's not a great 2nd liner, but he was a monster on the 3rd.
if you have any faith at all that you can build an actual NHL team, that's a pretty good asset.
and still young.
