amongst defensemen for the All-Star game (a guy by the name of Crosby has the most votes overall)
Penguins defenseman Kris Letang leads all National Hockey League defensemen in 2011 NHL All-Star Fan Balloting, presented by XM, with 210,807 votes. Letang is now the second-highest vote-getter in the league, behind only teammate Sidney Crosby, and paces all write-in candidates.
Despite not being on the ballot, Letang, the NHL’s second-highest scoring defenseman with 26 points (5G-21A) this season, has risen from fourth among all blueliners to first (16,205 more votes than Philadelphia’s Chris Pronger), and to second overall in voting thanks to a strong write-in campaign by Penguins fans.
Crosby continues to lead all NHL players with 319,809 votes – 109,002 more votes than second-place Letang. Crosby, who has been voted a starter in each of the past three All-Star Games (2007, ’08 and ’09), leads the NHL in goals (24) and points (48).
In addition to Crosby and Letang, forward Evgeni Malkin and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury rank among the leading vote-getters at their respective positions. Malkin ranks fifth among forwards with 159,119 votes, while Fleury, who is riding a career-best winning streak of nine games, is third among netminders (152,264).
Other Penguins to collect votes included forwards Maxime Talbot (22,008), Chris Kunitz (10,707), Pascal Dupuis (6,219) and defensemen Paul Martin (79,762), Brooks Orpik (27,775) and Alex Goligoski (7,115).
