Ok for the last time Pronger's contract is a 35+ which means the following for those of you who have no idea how the cap works.
The 35-and-Older Clause:
* When a player aged 35 or older signs a multi-year contract, his average salary is counted against the team's salary cap during every year of the contract, even if the player retires before the contract is up.
* If the player is sent to the minor leagues, his cap hit is reduced by $100,000.
So let's drop how bad the Pronger contract is since in all likelihood he will play almost the entire length of the contract and the Flyers will still be footing the bill when he does retire if there are any years left. The Hossa contract however is both front loaded and not a 35+ which means his contract shoudl have been looked at more closely.
Ok, just take a deep breath and relax. My comment had zero to do with any hatred or rivalry fueled vindictiveness. All I was pointing out was that both Hossa and Pronger signed on to contracts that are heavily front-loaded, paying both players in excess of 7 million through the 2013/14 season. As both players contracts reach the final two or three years before expiration, the numbers dip all the way down below 1 million dollars.... very similar to what Kovy's now nullified contract was attempting to do.
I don't give a flying rats ass about the fact that Pronger plays for philly. His contract is just a good example of another recently signed deal that has similar patterns to what Kovy and the Devs were attempting to build. And yes, I do understand the 35+ situation that Philly is in. The average year cap hit still takes in to account the relative tiny sums of money at the end of each players deal.
