The possibility of a lockout in 2012-13 is a factor in the Kovalchuk negotiations. Several articles indicated he asked for a signing bonus instead of a salary that season, because signing bonuses must still be paid. (Salaries, no.) I could see that being an issue for Kings owner Philip Anschutz, one of the commissioner's closest allies.

If the Vancouver Canucks do trade Kevin Bieksa, the team will do whatever it can to prevent it from being a salary dump. Mike Gillis wants to make a hockey deal.
