i listed a ton of players above they could trade. however, i doubt the flyers will clear enough cap space to allow him to sign for something no one else could. i really do not care where he signs. he scored 2 goals in the playoffs. a 5 on 3 goal and an empty netter.

well he said no to the kings. he is not the only one still deciding. he just gets the most attention.

I think that many forwards and teams are waiting for him to sign. Once he goes the rest of the dominoes will fall.

why would the flyers have to get kovalchuk in order to trade with the kings? kovalchuk to philadelphia makes no sense. they have giroux, leino, and carter who need raises. also jvr in a year i think. i say they trade gagne for a young winger under a rookie contract and sign turco to a one year deal then next year bobrovsky, backlund, or ericsson would be the goalie.

I don't mean the flyers need Kovy to make a trade, but if they get Kovy then they need to make a trade. That puts them at a disadvantage. However if neither team gets Kovy then the Kings will need to make a splash and the Flyers could get more from the Kings.

Ok latest from the Kings staff writer

"Here’s what I can tell you tonight… Dean Lombardi has still yet to respond, and it appears as though he’s had his phone off for a few hours now. However, a good team source has provided some insight into the Kovalchuk situation, and it’s what you might expect, that the Kings are “out” of the Kovalchuk chase to the extent that they’re not raising their offer any further. There’s nothing to say that talks couldn’t resume, but it seems as though that will only happen if Kovalchuk wants to come down from his request. It seems as though that $100 million price tag might be closer to reality than many believed. So we’ll see, in the next day or two, if Kovalchuk signs elsewhere for mega-bucks or if this chase will continue. That’s what I’ve got for now…"

Kovalchuk update LA Kings Insider

Dean turned his phone off during the busiest trading/signing time of the year. Sounds like frustration.

i don't get where the flyers could get this money. and seriously, getting kovy STILL DOESNT SOLVE THE GOALIE ISSUE! i mean, sure, their offense would be stellar, but it just doesn't make sense to me i guess. IMO, i wish the man would just leave our league if he seriously thinks he deserves such money. he's no spring chicken either, it's not like he's sid or ovie or geno or...any of the 'top young guns'. and he's not proven on a contender. what's his playoff record? not very nice. he's in a hossa situation in that regard...except with less experience. if he's not going to LA then i see his options as NYI or the KHL. either way winning is either a few years away or pointless.

while a agree he should just go the the KHL as he's totally not worth what he's demanding...
He is only 27. Not all that old.
And he hasn't had a lot of chances in the playoffs buried in the ATL, so it's hard to hold that against him... yet.

anyway... Kovy.. if you can hear this... go to the freaking KHL already.

Methinks Kovy should go to the KHL so that in 15 years the name Ilya Kovalchuk will come to our minds and we'll be like "Hey, I remember that Russian bastard. WOnder what he's doin' these days."

like i said before, it is actually easy for the flyers to make room. getting rid of gagne frees up 5.2 mil. then they could trade either carter, hartnell, carle, coburn, or meszaros. i do not want them to though because i do not want kovalchuk. as far as the goalie situation goes, i would like for it to be ugraded although leighton put up pretty good stats as a flyer in the regular season and the post season. in fact, he had the best numbers in the postseason. the flyers also have 3 good prospects and at least 1 is expected to be ready by next year. they only really need a goalie for another year or maybe 2.

Kovalchuk doesnt help the Flyers. Homer will give him an NMC and he will be a big ol' 8-10 million dollar tumor on our cap. It doesnt even match our style.

1-8 in the playoffs. It is a shame the Devils didnt give up more for a bad rental.
