With Niitty off the roster the Sharks have room to take on $3.3m in cap hits right now or $5.9m at the trade deadline.
Players cap hits who are on LTIR still count against the teams cap numbers. LTIR relief only comes into play if the team exceeds the cap ceiling. They are allowed to exceed the cap limit by the amount of cap space used while the player or players were on LTIR. Calculating the room it would provide would use the same formula as calculating cap space.
Max LTIR relief / Days remaining in the season * 186
I haven't seen anything indicating how much LTIR space the Sharks have available. If Havlat is still out at the trade deadline a rough estimate of the teams LTIR would be $2.0m. At the deadline there are 40 days left in the season.
($2.0m /40) *186 = $9.3m in additional space.
I will note that a team must have regular cap space available to aquire new players. So if a team has exceeded the max cap expenditures to that point in the season and are currently using their LTIR space to remain cap compliant they cannot aquire new players without first moving enough salary to get them back under the regular cap limits.
LOL uggg, I still dont understand. How can chi take on 22mil and the sharks oly 3.3? Wanna crunch the numbers and figure out how the radio guys came up with 22?

So is that with Niittymaki on the books or off the books?
That's after Niitty was waived.
Amazing, a team can win the cup, deal with Talons contract fuck ups, fire him, trade away majority of the roster, then the next season be a favored team with 22!!! MILLION FUCKING DOLLARS that they can add, and all the whith Talon has worked miricles in Flordia...
Whos in charge of firing Doug Wilson? Cause it really needs to happen. Sucks that I call for my favorite player growing ups head (before I got into goaltending) but the guy is just a shitty GM, and since day 1 I thought Todd was a shitty as coach, so please get rid of them both...
Wilson found a taker for Niitty. He's been reassigned to the Syracuse Crunch. Didn't take long for Dougie to get him as far away from the organization as possible.
