Can't go over the cap until mid November. So while the Kings could call someone up and go over the cap next month, they cannot today. Also there may be an issue with waivers on the way back down that the Kings want to avoid

I thought they were now eligible for an emergency callup where they could go over the cap but had to keep it under a certain amount ($100K maybe?) over. Was I wrong about that? Or maybe nobody that they could callup would be under that figure.

That is true after so many days into the season. However it might not be true yet. There is a hard cap for a short time to start each season while they figure out player withholding.
Kings have Lewis and Gaborik skating on the trip so I think they like playing a man down. It shows the league that there needs to be a ruling on the Voynov cap.

I think there is a bonus issue too, Weals contract would be ok, but something about a bonus or games played would disallow the Kings form using him as a call up.

Busy busy week - Junior turned 4 yesterday so we had parties and festivities, I had 2 seminars for work, my biggest client was subjected to a screw up from our support team so I was on pins and needles putting that fire out, etc. Just been one hellacious week, I didn't even get to watch the Kings games.

I am going to watch the Flyers game though (all I saw was the Muzzin turnover leading to the goal and it sure looked like to me Quick carried himself into the net because Schenn barely touched him and skated away) just to see how bad the team in general played it sounds like.

Regarding the recall, teams don't make moves usually at the beginning of the season because the way the cap works, as the year goes by the more cap space becomes available. Obviously being the first 3 weeks, not a heck of a lot is there ($500,000 or so?) - that's not even enough to recall a 9th defender at league minimum ($550,000).

Only cap relief Kings can get is if someone is put on LTIR but then there are other implications for that too, meaning the player would not be available for at least 24 calendar days and 10 games minimum. It's retroactive but say the player gets better sooner, they would be missing games they didn't need to and thus hurting the team if it's a key player. Lewis isn't key but he is important to that B6 role so the Kings are probably evaluating that but haven't pulled the trigger because he may be close to ready.

Bottom line is the Kings need to get the Voynov situation squared away ASAP and ride out the storm with the injuries, especially since it's early in the season.
