Curious about how the team that drafts you doesn't get anything if you don't sign. It seems that you have way more rights if you just walk than you do when you're a Restricted Free Agent (That's probably obvious since you haven't signed anything, but still interesting).
Is the rule 4-years after getting drafted, and you don't sign? Seems like it usually applies to college kids. If they go 4 years to college, and don't sign, then they get to be "free agents" ???
But for your typical kid that plays juniors, he gets drafted at 18, and at most then plays two more years of junior. After those two years, he has no other choice but sign ELC with club that drafted him, and either go AHL or NHL. I guess the only other choice would be to sit out a 1-2 years, or maybe go to Europe?
