Sorry if this has been posted already - didn't see it.

KHL President Alexander Medvedev wanted Kovy to know that Russia was still ready to accommodate him.

He told Pavel Lysenkov of Sovetsky Sport that SKA St. Petersburg of KHL [could] "easily offer Ilya Kovalchuk a contract for the same 17 years like New Jersey ... If Kovalchuk likes number 17 that much." He also said, "we will have an option so he can choose where to play at the dawn of his [KHL] career."

I think Kovy likes the number 102 a whole lot more than the number 17.

I'm at the point where I could care less if he goes to the KHL. I'm just sick of hearing about him, no offense AJ

I hear ya. Kovy's turned into the player version of the Phoenix Coyotes.

It's hockey's version of the Lebron drama. You're interested in where he lands, but just want it over and done with

I disagree with this statement. Do your research and look at the numbers Kovy was offered by both sides, along with the term, and you will see that Kovy is taking a HUGE discount to try and stay in the NHL and win a Stanley cup with a team.

The numbers...

NHL
The Devils essentially offered him a 12 year deal worth $98 million, we all know the last 5 years of that contract in which he gets paid league minimum are salary cap circumvention. Based upon 35% Federal Tax, and assuming he has an accountant who claims his salary in a state that has no income tax, he will net $63.7 million over those 12 years. This works out to be just over $5.3 million in his pocket annually.

KHL
Offered Kovy a 3 year deal worth $42 million. This would be tax free money to Kovy and he would pocket $14 million per year for 3 years. After his 3 year contract was up, he would be free to sign another lucrative deal.

Conclusion
Kovy is taking a $8.7 million per year net discount AND locking himself into this pay for the rest of his career to stay in the NHL and possibly win The Stanley Cup. I don't know about you, but if I was offered these 2 deals and I didn't have a severe love for the NHL, my butt would be signed with the KHL already. What would you do? $5.3 Million per season for 12 seasons that totals $63.7 million or $14 million per season for 3 seasons that totals $42 million.

All I can say is he must really really want to stay in America and play for The Cup.

So you think the most important thing to Kovy is that he gets a 17 year deal?
