I'm anticipating that I'm going to be faced with this decision in my keeper league draft, so I would appreciate any input from you folks.

Who do you think will have the most long-term success? Each of them is relatively unproven. How would you rank them?

Bishop Sankey
Carlos Hyde
Toby Gerhart
Terrance West
Devonta Freeman

Long term is Hyde... The 49ers is a great team for a back... But i dont like him at all for 2014...

Long term I'd say (beyond 2014 season); Hyde, Freeman, Sankey, West, Gerhart.
Short term (2014); Gerhart, Sankey, Hyde, Freeman.

Hyde
Freeman
West
Sankey
Gerhart

I'm very much on the fence with Sankey & Gerhart as far as which is more likely to have the best longterm success. I give Sankey a slight edge.

I agree with Lefty's list, except I would rank West after Sankey on the short term list, and Freeman before Hyde.

this is a pretty funny list to put together, since the long term is almost the exact reverse order of the short term.

Long: Hyde, West, Freeman, Gerhart, Sankey
Short: Gerhart, Freeman, Sankey, West, Hyde

I'm not sold on Sankey yet, need to see him do it at least for 1 game in NFL before I can endorse him. Unless something changes in the next few weeks, he will absolutely be drafted in all my leagues earlier than I would be willing to get him.

It's very interesting to see Gerhart and Sankey consistently ranked at the bottom of these long-term rankings.

those guys look to be the heir apparent (at least for now) to being the RB1s for SF, ATL, CLE

SF has arguably the best rushing attack in the league, ATL has an explosive offense that should put up points if the WRs are healthy, and CLE has a very good OLine and emerging defense.
There's a lot to like about a RB's long term value if they are in position to take over those jobs, imo.

My list will mirror Monkey except except i bump Sankey long even without seeing him thus

Long: Hyde,West,Freeman,Sankey,Gerhart

Short: Gerhart,Freeman,Sankey,West,Hyde

Nice thread

Hyde will be lucky if he gets 100 touches this season...

Freeman, i dont trust long term... He is way to small to be a 3 down back... dont know if he will be anything more than a flex option in fantasy football....

I took all the results to come up with an overall average for the board, at least so far. A first place RB got 1 point, 2nd place got 2 points, etc.

1) Hyde 1.1
2) Freeman 2.8
3) West 2.9
4) Sankey 3.7
5) Gerhart 4.6

I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to be watching these guys like a hawk in the preseason.

Also, does anyone have a good source on evaluating offensive lines?

There are a number of places to get fantasy opinion (CBS, ESPN, etc) type grades, but I'd put more stock on real NFL analyst. I think you can find some of those on NFL.com (non-fantasy), Rotoworld also does a pretty good job going into the personnel & depth. The NFL radio channel offers some good info as well.
A lot of the fantasy sites grade just like they do on DST's - based on last years performance - which can be drastically different this year. That's why I don't put much stock in their 'grades'.

Forgot probably the best source - Pro Football Focus
