Kassian gone for two games

Nice ruling Marouelli...jerk. Only problem is it wasn't a hit to the head, it was a hit to the chest/upper torso. Only penalty call should have been interference.

Canadian forward Zack Kassian has been suspended two games for his hit to the head of Czech forward Petr Senkerik.

Kassian will miss Wednesday night's game against Norway and Friday's key matchup versus Sweden.

The match penalty assessed for the hit Tuesday night carried an automatic one-game suspension. Tournament disciplinarian Dan Marouelli ruled today that it warranted an extra game.

No penalty called by either ref initially, then they get together and give him a match penalty. Typical IIHF officiating crap.

I think this has more to do with the type of physical player Kassian is, and his history with big hits. Most recently the one on Matt Kennedy where he was suspended 20 games.

Is Kassian a marked man or what? He can't catch a break. It was a clean hit. I thought the stretcher coming out & taking the kid off the ice was a bit much. They said during the broadcast that he was okay.

Well this is the first time I saw the hit and Buffalo radio was saying it was a bullshit call. I was careful not to fall into the homer game but now that I saw it THAT WAS A BULLSHIT CALL!!!!

IMO I don't think Kassian should have been on the Canadian Junior team to begin with. Not that it makes any difference, I just felt like saying it because I don't like Kassian. :p

As for the hit, looks to me like Kassian left the ice just a bit when he hit Senkerik. I don't think that had any affect on the suspension ruling, but it also means I don't think the hit was actually legal. He definitely thrust upward into Senkerik, which was absolutely unnecessary.

You also have to keep in mind that IIHF rules on headshots are much stricter than NHL and even junior standards. A player does not have to hit a player in the head to get ejected. Just a hit to the head area. This qualifies IMO. Sure the refs didn't do themselves any favors by not calling a penalty until they realized the player was injured, you won't get any argument from me on that. But according to IIHF rules, I do think they actually did get the call right regarding the ejection of Kassian. If you want to call the IIHF rules wuss rules or pussification of hockey that's fine with me. But that's how the IIHF does business.

And you're looking for ways to justify the hit because Kassian is Buffalo property. It goes both ways. I don't make the rules. But most people don't realize how tough the IIHF is on any hit that comes close to contacting the head. You don't have to like it. I don't like it. But it's an international competition so IIHF gets the final say.

I personally am fine with the ejection but if it were up to just me I would not have suspended Kassian.

Agree 100%, I would like to see more comments from Posters in the USA that are not Sabres fan's. Sabres fans and Team Canada fans could be biased but in all respect Destroydacre I disagree and try to be as neutral as possible.
