So, the first time ever the best team, by regular season record, gets swept in the LDS.
The team that clinches making the playoffs first hasn't won the World Series since 1998
As a Giants fan I hope the dynamic works vs the Nats. Something about coasting in and getting stale maybe, vs fighting in playoff mode for weeks before the season ends.
sweet, that was Baltimore clinching 1st a few hours before the Royals.

Nice tidbit. Where did you hear that one??
Doesn't everyone know that?
Not sure if everyone knows that but I think the Angels went 3-8 after clinching the Division title so whether or not clinching early effected other teams it did appear to effect the Angels.
No, the stat I was quoting was about which team clinches MAKING the playoffs during the regular season. I think it was the Angels this year. It's usually (but not always) the team with the best regular season record in baseball.
Point being, the best regular season team rarely wins it all, unlike football and especially basketball. The playoffs in baseball are just a small sample size crazy train.
I am definitely rooting for a Giants-Royals World Series. Both 5 seeds meeting up would be the ultimate craziness and get the purists howling. Plus KC is the most 'deserving' sports town left in the MLB playoffs.
Orioles were the first team in the regular season as well
They clinched before the Angels? Then they have the jinx on them.
