good timing on his part, after that playoff performance.

Those really are good deals for their young stars. Once Pronger's off the books then they'll probably sign a pair of big free agents, giving the city a lot to be happy with.

EDIT: Just saw Jstew's post. I take it back. One big FA.

your sniffers are faulty

James van Riemsdyk's deal is for $25.5 million over the six years or an annual cap hit of $4.25 million

woah.. 4.25 is a higher than i expected (obviously)... still a good signing, just not an awesome signing

very suprised he got more than giroux, i guess that's the price you pay for a 6 yr contract of a rising star compared to a 3 yr contract of a rising star

exactly, giroux will surpass jvr after his current contract expires so it is what it is.

Hopefully Giroux gets so pissed off that he demands a trade to the Penguins and gets to raise the Cup. This is mostly speculation of course.

Seems a tad high in terms of dollars at the moment, but in all likelihood this will be a steal for the Flyers by 2014 (maybe earlier).

Of course this long-term deal most likely means that Holmgren will deal him by 2013. :gossip:

They must have made him an initial offer and he said "Look, you GOTTA at least pay me more than Scott Hartnell."

I was going to say, how can anyone be surprised with this deal when Harts is making just as much?

Very good deal IMO. Like most are saying, by 2014 this will be average pay.

Well, I don't think Hartnell's contract is your measuring stick since it's a bad one. But I think it's a fair deal - likely a little pricey up front and maybe some value later on. But it could go either way - he may play to make it a good value the whole way through or it could be a bad long-term lockup. Time will tell.

I'd be happy if I were a Flyers' fan. I like the way JVR plays.
