Smoak: .180/.264/.320

Ackley: .220/.284/.370

I think I'm preaching to the choir here, but I think its safe to say these guys are what they are at this point. They arent the two core players that Z acquired/drafted to turn this franchise around. As much as I want to complain about a guy like Brad Miller, he's really only been bad for 2 months. Smoak has had 2183 career Abs in parts of 5 seasons. Ackley has 1664 Abs in parts of 4 seasons. We are probably stuck for this year but its my hope that we dont go in to 2015 with relying on these guys. I doubt either has serious trade value other then a secondary piece in another deal, but I think 1B needs to be addressed from outside the organization. Its time for Z to swallow his pride and admit he missed with these two and move on, assuming I guess he is still here next year.

I defended Smoak all last year, I defended him at the beginning of the year, I also defended him when his batting avg started to dip but he was still hitting the ball hard and driving in runs

...I'm done defending him

He has completely regressed

As for Ackley I'm still rooting for him to succeed, but it's becoming clear that all he is at best is a .240 to .250 hitter with below avg power, an avg glove, and good speed but not enough steals.

You know the Mariners have organizational depth problems at 1B when Willie Bloomquist is Smoak's replacement at 1st.

I too was a Smoak fan at least (nothing against Ackley, but not a huge fan) but I'm backing off of that.

Smoak has been the worst everyday 1B since 2010. I don't know why they keep running him out there. Don't believe me?

That posted weird. Bottom line, Smoak has been -0.2 WAR since 2010. The next shittest is Hosmer who is still far better at 1.6 WAR. (I put 2000 ABs as the qualifying mark.)

I thought they were calling Peterson (sp) up to Jackson and converting him to 1B?

If the Mariners actually had a legit outfield I would like Ackley as a bench guy- 4th outfielder, plus he has experience at 1B and 2nd. He is the kind of player that has value on a team as a role player. Smoak on the other hand has little versatility cause he can only play 1 position and it is a position that you need to be able to contribute offensively.

I bet Smoak goes on the DL for this "injury" he has and they call Morrison back up. Morrison's rehab stint is supposed to done on Wednesday I think.

Smoak is exactly the kind of guy I can see us sending somewhere else and becoming Chris Davis v 2.0. He has the bat speed and power, he just can't put something together and connect the good stretches together while stopping the bad stretches short.

That isn't to say I hope we don't let him go too soon. I've come to believe these kinds of guys won't ever become who they will elsewhere, with the M's if they stay.

I'm a patient fan and even I'm about at the point where I want something new. I don't know what that is, and Smoak does provide great defense, but that hitting ability is just not cutting in anywhere close over the long run.
