Great job Awaz! ;)

I just read about this 5 minutes ago in my local paper. It says this Akeson kid is leading the OHL in scoring with 103 points. My first reaction was "sweeeeet!!" whatta steal baby!! My second was "whats wrong with him? - how did we get lucky enough to land him??" lol

that would could be due to the supposed friendship with roo?

apparently he only played 13 games in his draft year (2008).. so that could be the reason he didnt get drafted.. but still, hadn't signed with anyone til this year
Some scouting reports list Akeson as a ‘soft’ player with a slender build who doesn’t have enough elite speed or skill to play in the NHL. Whatever the case, Akeson doesn’t think so.

I have faith in Homer to get the Phantoms etc back in shape soon enough.

The guy might not be perfect, but he knows how to build a team. lol

Awaz - Hopefully he'll get into our system and see how the pro's do it, put on some weight/muscle and go from there.

I mean, "soft" or not......it's obvious the dude has tons of natural skill, so....I guess we shall see huh?

Who needs draft picks when you can sign the top undrafted players...haha! This seems to happen every year but in reality there's no real risk but a high reward...I commend Homer on this!!! Todays NHL is a littler easier for the smaller so called soft players so if he can build himself up a bit in the next few years who knows....they said the same thing with st.louis.

I couldn't agree more with any of this post.

Homer really is one of the best GM's in the game!

On the downside, Jason is a perimeter player and finds himself in vulnerable positions quite often. His lack of size doesn't help him either, without much strength on the puck.

Pat Kane anyone?

The refs knew he was going to be a Flyer so any penalty is automatically 1 and 1 in the box. Who knows, the team that tried fighting Akeson probably got a powerplay....

I just wanted to add that the Flyers are also interested in signing Stephane da Costa from Merrimack. He has his own website to promote his candidacy for the Hobey Baker award as a sophomore.

He has 29 goals and 52 assists in 61 games as a freshman and sophomore. By comparison, van Riemsdyk had 29 goals and 47 assists in 67 games in college.

I should also mention that about 5 other teams want him too, and given his talent level, he may choose a less deep team (read: the other 29 in the league :D:cool:) that will get him to the NHL quicker.

Yep makes sense and I bet Z does the same thing in the summer...unless he values the cup ring on his finger maybe he'll stay in Philly for a discounted rate and work his ass off from now on. Yes one can dream...haha!

Flyers signed senior Bemidji State forward Matt Read today. In 111 games the past 3 seasons, he has 56 goals and 60 assists, over a point per game pace. He was team captain this year while leading the team in goals and points, and he holds the school Division I record for goals, assists, and points in a career.
