The Pittsburgh Penguins placed defenceman Jack Johnson on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout on Monday. Johnson had three seasons left on his contract at a cap hit of $3.25 million.

Horrible deal to begin with, I remember how it was an eye raiser. But Rutherford drafted him when he was in Carolina, maybe there was some sentiment there but we all know he has been a pretty pedestrian/subpar defender his entire NHL career. But the dude is walking away with a crap ton of cash, that's fitting I suppose for a guy who's parents swindled him earlier this decade and put him into BK.

Best thing he ever did in LA was leave though, Carter was the missing piece and it slotted Voynov where he needed to be.

I totally forgot about the head fake, sometimes it looked like his head was going to roll off his body and into the corner like a bowling ball. I'd have to look, but anyone remember if he and Muffin played/were paired together? Jesus what a disaster that D pair would have been.

I remember his first NHL shift and some mid level/B6 Canuck (I think) cartwheeling him into next week when he tried an end to end rush like he did in Michigan. I just started cracking up thinking yeah boy, that stuff won't work at the NHL level even on a grinder.

Been near your neck of the woods a lot at Cook's Corner in recent months, been shredding Silverado Canyon. Not easy to do on a 1000 pound bruiser but fun.

Im pretty sure muffin was never called up until after the 1st cup.....which JmfJ was the key part of being traded for Carter.
