Redskins fired DC Joe Barry.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports the Redskins have also parted ways with the "entire defensive staff." It is a massive but necessary shakeup for a team which should be looking to take the next step. Barry has never finished better than 28th in total defense in four seasons as an NFL coordinator. This may end up being the last time he runs a defense.

Now.. can we get a REAL DC in here.

I feel bad for him on a person level. Barry is actually a nice guy.

But I think his best fit is as a LB Coach some place....else

Glory - freaking - hallelujah. Wade Phillips, the guy Gruden passed on the first time, is available now.

I had a dream this would happen and . . . that Jay got on the horn with Haz to see if he was interested in the newly created vacancy.

As most of us predicted, Barry would be gone. Keep in mind, Barry was tied to Gruden so "if" Gruden kept Barry around for atleast next season, they were tied together. I think Gruden saw the writing on the wall (Barry's ineptness) and knew if next year was a re-run, he was gone as well.
The argument has been that Barry didn't have the talent to make the current defensive group productive but reality is, Barry's schemes actually sucked and didn't put players in a position to succeed. We should have seen more from younger players like Smith however he along with others regressed.

So out with the old, in with the new. If we are so called starting over on defense, you will see no aging players trying to hold on for another year. Players like Hall and a few others will be jettisoned for younger more productive players on cheaper deals without injury history.

I can honestly say, its a good day for Redskins fans!!!

The regression from Breeland and Smith. Sticking with Whitner,Bruton, Philips, Reyes, and Fuller as long as he did. Ran a prevent vs. Detroit.

Gruden has to get this next hire right. He needs to check his ego this time. I'll say it again, it was a soft hire because Jay was on the hot seat and didn't want his potential interim replacement on staff.

He has the clout now, but he can't go 0 for 2 on this.

Exactly. Despite being short on personnel / talent, Barry managed to do even less with them that anyone could've imagined. For instance, against a Giants offense that had sputtered all season and, in particular, the last four games, he should've stacked the box and dared Eli to throw. Eli came into the game with wobbly confidence behind his sieve-like offensive line. Instead of blitzing him, especially on obvious passing downs, he decided once again to play coverage. This allowed Manning to play a nearly pressure-free game and justify the Giants decision to keep him playing. If we spooked Eli early on, not only would've he have started throwing wildly like he usually has all season, McAdoo might've yanked him before halftime, if not earlier. Instead, Eli had a clean pocket and the running game, which was non-existent for the Giants, ended up totaling 161 yards and kept our offense off the field for extended periods of time. I know a lot of people are saying that the defense did their job in the Giants game. They actually didn't. The fact that they "limited" the Giants to 10 points is more a statement on the Giants than the Redskins defense.

He decided to retain Haz when everyone here knew he shouldn't have been retained. Grudes is already 0-2 as far as d-coors go.
