A sad day herein…

50 years ago tonight, a plane carrying Jim Croce crashed on takeoff at Natchitoches, Louisiana killing all aboard. He was coming here to do a show at the local college. At the time I was working at one of the local pizza joints which was a hangout for the college kids. My sister, myself and a couple we worked with were able to get our hands on some tickets and was looking forward to a hell of a night. Instead, we pretty much held a wake at the pizza parlor playing Croce tunes. I have never listened to “Time In A Bottle” the same way after as I did before. My sister gets teary every time she hears “Operator”.

She also kept the poster we had at the pizza parlor. It’s framed on her wall.

Damn good songwriter that left us way too soon.

I graduated from HS in June of '73, and used to listen to his tunes quite a bit back then, and still do every now and again.
He was very popular in those days, and it seemed his music was always on the radio...both AM & FM.

RIP
