Some of you have been wondering why Montero has not been called up yet? Montero's stats dropped off of a cliff in May. After putting up a .930 OPS in April, his May OPS was in the .650s. He hit one homerun in May and his slugging percentage was in the mid .300s. He can't defend. He can't run. Offense is all he can offer the team, so he's going to have to do better than what he has shown in the last 30 games.

It's time to move on from his ass! It's time to start thinking trade, and for once as a buyer. Did I just say that, buyer? Crazy shit!

They are over-acchieving right now considering what they have on their roster in the way of position players. For the first time in several years I can honestly say that they deserve to have ownership make a major in-season investment in them. They deserve it. But, they won't get it.

Yep. Just like Will Middlesucks and Jackie Brown, Junior.

Since when were they considered "can't miss prospects"?

Middlebrooks' "plate discipline" (or lack thereof) was always a huge concern.

Bradley was ranked #31 entering 2013 and #50 entering this year by BA. Middlebrooks was #51 entering 2012. I guess there's a lot of "can't miss prospects" then.

I still say pull him up and give him 2 weeks at DH. If he goes 2 for 10 and a homer a week, he would actually raise our DH numbers. Nothing to lose and maybe he increases his value enough to be dealt. I am no psychologist, but if you have a great month in the minors at a position where your services are needed on the MLB team and still don't a call up and your GM basically says he wants nothing to do with you, then maybe you go into a mental funk?

I've given up trying to over-analyze triple a numbers. Nick Franklin hits like .370 in Tacoma and then hits .128 when he gets called up.

Maybe Montero will do the opposite. Hit cold in triple a and then have some moderate success at the majors. What's the worst he could do? Hit .190 and strike out a bunch? That's essentially what our DH position has given us all year.

I say at some point give him a shot.

I have to imagine if Nick Franklin hits .370 in AAA and .128 in the majors, Jesus Montero is not going to do much better.

I say Montero is a waste of a roster spot.

As NWinAZ said, let's say Montero hits .200 and averages a HR a week playing every day. Couldn't we get similar production from someone who can at least run and play a position other than DH? I think the whole rotation we've got going at DH is a poor excuse for a lack of an every day DH, but it's better than Montero who is unlikely to be any more productive at the plate and will only be a regression at every other aspect of the game.

offensively, that's a very good idea. we use the phrase "it's a different ballgame" so often, and forget that the idiom developed from sports, and refers directly to the fact that major league pitching is wildly different from minor league pitching. franklin, ackley, and smoak have all been able to hit minor league pitching well for awhile. guess why? because most of those pitchers throw junk. it's why they're not in the majors yet. this is not difficult to understand. the types of pitches players get in the minors vs the majors is far and away the biggest difference between them.

fielding is a different matter entirely.

Which is exactly why I have no faith in calling Montero up. If he can't hit AAA pitching, what makes us think he can hit MLB hitting?

After the way the last year has gone for Montero, I am operating under the assumption that he never contributes to the big league club. Partially because he hasn't proven to be very good at any thing and partially because it seems that Jack Z and company have taken a stern stance on his situation. Either way if he's up at the big league club producing in the next few years I will be shocked. I have pretty much written him off.

You would think, but the point is they haven't. If they had, we wouldn't be talking Mt.-tero. Willingham is still my first realistic player to add. I would even take Zobrist since Tampa is playing poorly. I know he has regressed the last few years, but he would still be an improvement and he can be moved around the field which never hurts.
