I don't see why it matters. It is just a number not some sort of good luck read your future tarra card kind of bullshit. Just pick a number for your position and be done with it

It means something to the players in almost every case. Tell me it doesn't mean anything to a guy who pays another player for that number.

:agree: with Sick it doesn't matter but they are certain positions that as a fan I want to see a "potential" star player wear. Also athletes are attached to numbers hell anyone who plays a sport are attached to their number more often then not

In McDonald's case, it meant something to Harbaugh, even. No pressure, Rookie.

Numbers absolutely matter. Any guy who I've ever played ball with his has lucky number or favorite number, they want to get that number or some version of that number. Also some of these guys might want the jerseys of players who were their idols in the past.

For NFL guys it matters even more because this is part of their marketing while gaining indorsements. They want a "attractive" number because they are more marketable.

Of course the players could make their own number marketable like Troy P.

See I am the kind of person who would take any number and would do my best to make that number mine. 80= Jerry Rice. 8 = Steve Young, 16 = Cool Joe, and i would make everyone see 14 as Hangman. I could not try to take from someone else's legacy from their number, I make people try and take from my legacy.

But if I got stuck with like a 32 who everyone thinks of Jim Brown. I would do my best to out do Jim Brown and make people think of me instead of him.
