1. For the billionth time, who said recruiting doesn't matter?

2. If someone on 1620 said so then it is obviously true right? Or at least that is what I have been told.

3. Let me give you some names of those teams talked about. Pete, Mack, Urban, Miles, Saban, and Chizik. 5 of those 6 names are experienced head coaches that are at the very least in the top 10 of all coaches in the country and 4 of those 6 are probably in the top 5. Those are coaches that can correctly utilize the talent they bring in and coach the up to make them even better. Let me give you some other names. USC, Texas, Florida, LSU, Alabama, and Auburn. 3 of the most legendary programs in all of college football.

But do you know why those "great coaches" chose to coach at those schools?

Big time high school prospects right in their back yard and top notch facilities that will attract recruits.

Those coaches know they can go anywhere and win. But they go to the big time schools for 2 reasons. Money and attention.

You then have coaches like Bill Snyder and Frank Beamer who couldn't give 2 shits about the attention but still win at more than a high level at places that has no business succeeding. Why do they win? They get the talent that fits their system no matter how many stars they have and are able to coach the players up and maximize their talents. Get all the top talent you want, if you can't maximize their talent and coach them then it don't mean shit. Look at Mack Brown lately. Look at why Philip Fulmer got fired.

Beams and Snyder have and will continue to win ALOT of games and conference titles on the talent they have had. But to get to the next level of "MNC", they will likely hafta have 2 or 3 top 10ish recruiting classes. Great coaches, but coaching will only take you so far with 3 (and a handful of 4/5) star players..

Beams and Snyder can win ALOT of games and conference titles on the talent they have had, but to get to the next level of MNC, they will likely hafta have 2 or 3 top 15 (15 being worse case) recruiting classes. Great coaches, but coaching will only take you so far with 3 (and a handful of 4/5) star players..
