Signs that he is in the mix here. Bruce Allen and AJ Smith have close ties to his dad and he is a well respected offensive mind. He does have DUI under his belt in Florida in 05.

Honestly I don't know much about him though

He has been my first choice since it was aparent Shanny would be gone.....He is a young up and comer, and like was stated, he has done wonders with Dalton.....He is innovative on offense, and I dont really care about the read option.....If we use it....needs to be 1 or 2 times a game, bust it out when not expected......plus...make them think about it....I don't want Robert being exposed to hits more then necessary.......

I thought I heard this on ESPN yesterday.. correct me if I'm wrong... is there a one-day window of opportunity to formally express interest to a coach on another team before the playoffs start?

I'm going to assume the Redskins would be "tampering" if they'd talk to Gruden now....I have no clue. But yeah he's an intriguing option as well, and I've seen him run some option with Dalton, I think he would even keep both our TE's.

As I remember it a team can request permission to talk with a coach from a team in the playoffs but they have to agree to that request. The Redskins asked to talk to the coach in Seattle and Pete Carroll agreed to let him interview.

As long as a team is interested in interviewing a coach for what would in essence be a promotion, I don't think a team CAN deny a request. I don't know if that's a rule, or an unwritten rule.

If it's for a lateral move, I think a team CAN deny a request.

At least, that's what I thought it was.

Danny Smith was allowed to interview for the pittsburgh job, a lateral move, because he is a native of pittsburgh (maybe?) or has close ties to Pittsburgh, and wanted to work there, I believe.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think this is right. If a coach is under contract, I think a team can deny a request, promotion or not.....I do think its standard policy to let guys interview for promotions.

Danny Smith left because he and Shanahan didn't see eye to eye. Smith was a hold over from before Shanahan and the behest of Snyder. So of course shanahan probably didn't completely trust him being the paranoid little prick he is.

Ok, got my answer looking at an article for another team..

Spielman expects thorough search for Vikings' next coach | Star Tribune

...to interview an assistant coach on a playoff team that plays in a wildcard game this weekend, he must wait until next week. Assistants on playoff teams that have a first-round bye are allowed to interview this week through Sunday.

Per league rules, Spielman is allowed to interview coaches on playoff teams one time during the postseason but can't have contact again until after the season ends.

According to Adam Schefter, a Gruden deal to the Skins is imminent.

Its not a done deal, but its looking likely. Gruden was supposed to meet with the Vikings today and has put that interview on hold. That's a pretty good sign that he is trying to work this out with the Skins.
