It's just a dumb statement to make, period. I thought this kind of stupidity was reserved for the Oilers and Leafs. Remember when Renney came out with the "I'll be surprised when we don't make the playoffs" comment just before Xmas last season? How did that turn out?

I do like the fact that the team is trying to get younger and seems to be adopting a philosophy where young guys will get a chance to crack the lineup. That really wasn't the case with Dutter.

/If the Flames want to entertain any chance of making the playoffs, JayBo needs to step up his game big-time and Kipper needs to be better.

as well when Maurice stated. the Leafs will make the Playoffs and Challenge for the Stanley Cup. well um at least wait until the season starts :)

Right now, who would your rather have on your team: JayBo or Keith Ballard?

I know, it's more of a head scratcher than it appears...

I'll still take an overpaid JayBo who logs 25+ minutes a night versus a 4.2 million dollar seat warmer in the pressbox.

i dont know Dash. I think the season was not the issue of BAllard being bad as he was more injured. the playoffs another story. but I think Ballard is alot more physical than Jaybo. i dont like either cap hit

I don't see what the big deal is. Feaster basically guaranteed the Flames would make the playoffs. I realize he should have kept his mouth shut but, would you rather he say they aren't a playoff team?

Dash explains it pretty well here. there are other ways to say it. saying the Canucks will make the playoffs is pretty much a lock or San Jose etc.. but Calgary has missed 2 years in a row and took a step back in teh off season this year. I think as well as dash that maybe a little more PC comments should take effect. it does affect public perception. noone will say we will miss the playoffs but not alot of team outright say We guarantee it.

Right now I'd say the top 8 will look like this:

1.Vancouver
2.Detroit
3.L.A. Kings
4.San Jose Sharks
5.Chicago Blackhawks
6.?
7.?
8.?

The top 5 teams in my opinion are LOCKS. That leaves three spots open for everyone else in the West. It's certainly conceivable for Calgary to make it. Nashville better do something at forward or they're in BIG trouble. The Ducks have serious problems on their blueline & haven't done anything to solve them. The Coyotes are counting on Mike Smith & a couple of other backups to replace Bryzgalov. Good luck with that. That's three playoff teams from last year who are goinig to have a difficult time making it next season.

Minnesota & Colombus have improved themselves this offseason. Calgary almost made it last year. If they have a better start to the season I like their chances as well.

1.Vancouver (class of the west if they can stay healthy and add bottom 6)
2.San Jose Sharks (a very very good hockey team who I think can take the west too)
3.Detroit (always the threat, coached well and Captain Sweden leads)
4.L.A. Kings (I think Quick will be the reason they dont take their Divison
5.Chicago Blackhawks (changing too many bottom parts and goaltending may hold them back from top spots)
6. St Louis (lots of improvements and the better younger talent than minny/columbus
7. Minnesota (many good improvements and Heatley should provide a nice spark)
8. Columbus (carter, nash and umberger will lead them to playoffs)

man the West is looking weaker from 5 down.

What's wrong with the line "We've made some moves this off-season that will give opportunities to some of our younger guys in the organization and at the same time gives us flexibility to still acquire players that can hopefully make us a better team." Don't even mention the word "playoffs".

/Cue the Jim Mora rant

I hear he borrowed the cup and brought it to the Flames rookie camp so the players could all skate around with it.
