Well that's a bummer. Loved watching him play at VT and in the pros. He was just entering his prime imo

Dang, why? Always thought he was going to be a solid player for the Steelers down the road. Averaged like what, 6 sacks a season? Certainly not terrible for a 2nd rounder.

Made his money and put his time in, he gets to walk away healthy and with most of his life ahead of him. Good for him.

I think this is much more than a trend with all the CTE issues. Players figure they can go work like a normal schmo for 40 or 50 years and be lucky if they can eventually pull down a 6-figure salary. Or they can play football for 4-5 years, pull in far more cash than they ever would otherwise, then get out while they still have their health - then start a 2nd career doing whatever they want. If you're not one of those morons that blows $100 million in a few years and invests wisely then it's a pretty good plan.

Man... Playing football would be fun though... It's so rare to make it as a professional athlete... I would have a hard time walking away personally.... That's just me though...

Wow. Didn't see that coming at all.

Too bad. That kid had all of the tools to really make a name for himself

I think it would depend. There are OL players that I have heard speak about how they no longer can sit right in a chair and their arms just don't quite work right. If I noticed my body was just always in pain I think I would reach a point where if I had made enough money I could be ok walking away.

At the same time when football has been your whole life yes it would be hard to just one day say the last 20 years of my life in football are done.

I won't be surprised if in the future we see this happening more often. After a player gets his first big payday, there needs to be a reevaluation of long term happiness. In this case, Worilds got franchise tag money last season & in total has probably made $15 mil or so in his NFL career. For most people, after taxes & agent fees, that would be more than enough money to live very comfortably for the rest of their lives. For him, his long term health & the money he already has made, outweighed his possible NFL future earnings & the chance of a life altering injury.

It could be that or the fact that he is pouting after not getting offers close to what he valued himself at.:noidea:
