If Jarvis Jones didn't have spinal stenosis, how high would he be on your big board?

For me, the guy would be the clear-cut #1 overall player in the entire draft.

I don't see Jarvis Jones even close to Von Miller. So neck injury or not I wouldn't take him in top 10.

I think there are a lot of question marks at the top of this draft (Star Lotulelei, Geno Smith, Sharif Floyd, Bjoern Werner). IMO Luke Joeckel is the only clean prospect at the top, but I think Jones is the better talent. Jones would be #1 in this draft without those concerns, but probably outside of the top 10 in the past couple of drafts.

So how high do you think Jarvis Jones is selected come draft day?

At this point, wouldn't it be reasonable to guess around 15? Not sure teams in the top 10 are going to risk such a high pick on him.

Mid to late 20s. If the Colts, who are transitioning to a 3-4, decides to pass up on him, then it wouldn't suprise me one bit if he falls out of the first round entirely. Again, highly unlikely because Green Bay would snatch him up (considering what we did to them in the playoffs). I'm no physician and the news that came out of the combine did not help his cause at all. Some teams has decided to remove him entirely from their boards. Meaning, if he is there in the 7th round...they would pass up on him again!!

When did this news surface (medical issue), Saturday or Sunday? I mean some folks are already mocking him out of the top 10:

If you're right, then there is no more perfect destiation for the guy than SF. He wouldn't have to be a 3 down player, and the Niners desperatly needed a situational pass rusher in the playoffs; he could be that guy.

Jarvis Jones could be what Aldon Smith was his rookie season. He only plays like a third of the snaps, and that gives both Brooks and Aldon some rest.

Imagine this scenario on a passing down:

Jarvis at LOLB
Brooks moves inside to LDE
Ray Mac' at NT
Justin & Aldon doing their things.

I certainly wouldn't want to be the guy trying to come up with a way to block that.

You think Brooks can hold up at LDE on passing downs? And we would be sending both Smith and Jones in this scenario or would one drop out into coverage?

Is this the same condition he has been playing with his whole career or have doctors find something else wrong. Not sure why he would drop out of top 15 with the production he has had at UGA and a rookie draft scale.

If he gets anywhere near 20 we need to make a deal to go get him because kid is defiantly a beast IMO

It would depend. One could drop into coverage or they could rush 5. Either one would be a nightmare for OCs.

And yes, I think Brooks could rush well from LDE. However, I also want the Niners to acquire another 5 tech' guy in case they want to simply take Brooks off the field. Brooks is a great player, but Jarvis Jones is going to be an elite pass rusher like Aldon is.

As far as the DEs go, there are guys like Cullen Jenkins, Richard Seymour, Jared Odrick, Tyson Jackson, etc. I'd love to treat the 3rd DE like a quasi-starter kind of like they treat the 3rd CB like a quasi-starter.

On third and long you can pretty much just throw all the pass rushers on the roster out there and let them kill the QB. They'll be standing up moving around pre-snap in those situations lot of the time anyway. Third and shorter distances though you definitely wouldn't want to do it all the time. Sporadically is okay though to keep the offense off balance. And having another pass rush option to rotate in and out would help keep everyone fresh. So I wouldn't hate drafting an OLB in the 1st is he's BPA.

1st round will really be coming down to BPA between a lot of defensive positions including DE, NT, CB, and then S, OLB.

ILB and SS are the only positions definitely out of the question in the 1st.

Makes sense I too would rather have a 5 tech that could come in and spell both Ray Mac and Smith. Me personally I would use Jones to get Brooks a blow maybe 50% of the time and Aldon 25% to keep them fresh. I would also at times when we go to a 4 man line have Jones RayMac Smith Brooks on the DL and keep Aldon to rush from the middle. That would be some scary shit for olines to deal with IMO

I know that. I was referring to when the "real news" (teams removing him off their board completely) had been released. Saturday or Sunday? Ray was the one that initially posted it for us.

Why are teams removing him from their boards? Is it more to it then his spinal issue? I am confused is there a big risk he won't be able to play?

I don't think teams are worried he won't be able to play; they're worried he won't be able to play very long. Some other players who have had the condition have been great but didn't last very long. Marcus McNeill comes to mind.

This is why I think he's a perfect fit for the 49ers because they already have 2 starting OLBs, neither of whom are very old. Jarvis could be used like Aldon was used his rookie year(sparingly as a pass-rush specialist). It needs to freeking happen!

This was what Ray posted:

Citing a league source, Profootballtalk.com reports Georgia OLB Jarvis Jones' neck injury (spinal stenosis) is causing "multiple teams" to shy away from him, particularly in round one.

PFT reports Jones is being removed from draft boards, ostensibly after Combine medical exams confirmed the stenosis. Jones received a clean bill of health at Georgia and dominated the SEC, but he's opted out of Combine drills and "multiple teams" have "already decided to avoid him." We witnessed a similar situation in the 2011 draft. Widely expected to be a top-ten pick, Da'Quan Bowers slipped all the way to Bucs' second-round selection (No. 51).
