Yep.. .and apparently we are looking at him. The closer we get to FA, the more i get that feeling we are going to start collecting names again.

Byrd is one of the few in FA that I think may be worth the spend. He is young and a stud. We could solve a huge hole for years with his signing. I would definitely rather spend on Byrd than on Talib.

My fear is.. we are going to go get both. Not because they cant play... but because its alot of money and the old ways FA signings will get us in the news for all the wrong reasons.

No way, no how...far too many holes to address.

When Money and dan Snyder are concerned, never say never. truth is, they could structure deals to bring in Byrd, Talib, Mitchell and still resign Riley, Bring in Collins and another O-lineman. Especially if the Cap is supposed to go to the $16 range within the next two years as reported.

Now mind you I think this is a very BAD idea. But I dont put it past them at the moment. And I have a feeling there will be at least one, and likely two high dollar high profile FA signings in DC this year. The only real question I have is... which ones.

I agree on at least one high profile FA, maybe 2. If they are the right ones, I'm OK. Like Bryd, but no Talib. Too many issues from health to off the field stuff. He's never impressed me as a team guy, we don't need prima donnas (anymore, at least), we need solid, dependable team guys that can make plays. I see Byrd and maybe Calros Dansby (but he would be just a 2 year rental) or Joseph Linval.

I don't get what is wrong with targeting Byrd? He's elite and we'd still have plenty money after signing him.
The last time we had an elite FS our defense was top 15 and we were a playoff team. He will only make our above average OLBs...elite. We don't have to address every hole this year with so-so cheaper guys...missing out on a few game changers doesn't seem wise when we have the money.

I agree. Nothing wrong with landing a top tier player, as long as its the right guy, money won't change his motivation, and he isn't past his prime. Byrd passes all 3 of those tests. If we are going to spend, spend it on a guy like this and than help rebuild this team.

Redskins could put a huge dent in the holes they have with free agency and the draft if they do it right

That's all it takes to turn the team around at certain positions. With all our draft picks next year, we don't have to fix every problem this year with a so-so guy. We went 10-6 and led the league in rushing with what many would consider back-ups. We could land Byrd, sign Riley add another FA and still have plenty

I would be very OK with signing this guy. It is obvious that Rambo isn't (and probably never will be) the answer.

If there was one FA I would consider spending money on, it is Byrd because he is the best at his position...not just the best in FA. I would rather a guy like Malcolm Jenkins because I think he's underrated and wouldn't cost nearly as much.

All other positions, I don't want the top guy for their position in this FA class because none of those other guys are the best at their position but they will be paid like it.

Rambo was a 6th round pick and improved as the season went on. I'm not sure why people are so quick to give up on guys.

I agree GK . i am not saying rambo is a savior either but damn after one season we write him off ?

man 9 mill on a safety is tough to swallow especially with riley going on the market . i would target jenkins

as far as snyder and the name syndrome byrd is young talented and he can help us so it beats the past of smith sanders and the rest of the old has been names

we will see what happens

It's not necessarily giving up on him, but he has a long way to go to be a starter. He can't tackle. That's a bit of a problem for a safety and your last line of defense. He also is ineffective on special teams, something that is required for a 6th round pick and a guy hoping to stick in the nfl while he learns his position. If he hasn't dramatically improved, he may not make this team.

Yeah he was a 6th rounder, but the mistakes he made were not only mental mistake but technical ones. Guy has been playing football his entire life, he should know how to take decent angles and tackle a little bit. I understand not giving up on him just yet, give him some time show us something before cutting him loose. But does our safety position have to suffer miserably for the next 3 years (and defense as a whole due to this gaping hole) while we give him 3 or 4 years to develop??

I get the philosophy of giving these guys a chance to succeed, but they should be showing us something by the 2nd or 3rd year, or they are career backups at best.

If Snyder wants a player or players he will find away to get them ALL. We have seen it EVERY F#ing year almost that if Snyder thinks the player can help his fantasy football team then he will spend the most on him. Even if we only have a little in cap space Snyder will work his math magic and find the money for the expensive FA. I am not saying Byrd would be a bad pickup at 9million a season but I am saying Talib, Byrd, Sproles, etc, etc, etc together would be a bad pickup. Plus I rather have several cheap free agents then 2 expensive free agents who will hurt us in a few years.

Ritz... Im going to play devils advocate here for a sec (which I know I will regret later) But honestly if you look at the cap going forward. Lets say it only goes up by $5 million next year. We still are projected to have $47 million in free space. So even if you added another $25 million to next year from signing Byrd, Talib, Britt, Sproles, Collins, Mitchell, Hawk, Riley, Another ILB, and three very good Waterboys, cap wise it wouldnt kill us. So from a cap point, I dont really sweat it. Because we are not buried in older players.

Chemistry wise.... I simply dont think dream teams work in the NFL. Add in a new first time HC, a 3rd year QB with his own set of issues.. and it is either going to work really well... or become a fucking catastrophe of epic proportions.

Like I've said before Jairus Byrd is my favorite FA. I like his game. He is a ball-hawk, a good tackler, and he forces fumbles. At first, I said I didn't want us to sign him because of his $9 million asking price. However, I saw that other safeties that are making $8 million per season, such as Eric Weddle. Eric Berry is the highest paid at $10 million per season. I believe Byrd is better because he plays the ball more. Therefore, I believe he is worth $9 million per season because of the market. Plus, we have not had a good FS, since Sean Taylor. Not to mention, that position was probably the worst on our defense. Therefore, I'm all in.
