NHL prospect tourneys, NHL training camps open in three weeks, NFL start for real this week, CFL games start taking on more importance, kids back in school (well, one of mine anyway, come on BC public teachers).

It's a great time of year.

Well I certainly love the autumn weather but seeing how winter follows here in New England I'm not as excited as you dash, lol. I really should consider moving down Biz's way where winter usually last, like, 3-4 weeks or something.

Honestly, it's been such a REALLY nice summer here in DC. The coolest I can remember in my adult life.

I often melt in summer, but I have really loved it this year and spent a good chunk of my time camping, biking, etc. this year. (I should really move to Canada. ;) ) So I'll be sad to see it go, but that said...

BRING ON THE HOCKEY!!

(p.s. - after baseball is done, we're trying to win a Series here, thanks)

(p.s.s. - this global warming stuff is a crock of shit. I blame Darkstone.)

That only makes me more interested in why you text "labia" so much that your auto correct defaults to it.

I agree with the sentiment in part, but c'mon BC Fiberals, too.

I dont see why teachers deserve more than any public sector union. :noidea: more than nurses and other health professionals???

I will say my view may be biased because alot of idiots i went to highschool with became teachers and i pray for any parent whose kids are being taught by that lot

My girlfriend is a teacher and I get to hear (sometimes tune out) all the good and bad stories about teachers, students, parents etc.

So she tells me this one last night. A colleague of hers is getting married this month. She's getting married on a Saturday and apparently wanted the following Monday off for whatever reason (honeymoon is not until sometime down the road). So she asked if it would qualify as a "Family Day", which I guess is paid time off typically given if there is a medical emergency to a family member. She was denied. So now after requesting it off via that route she can't call in sick or it would be far too obvious. So now she is sooking that because she tried to be honest about it she is going to have to take the day off without pay. :L

She's a fucking teacher and she chooses to get married in the fall when she had the whole fucking summer (not to mention Christmas and March/Spring break), and I'm supposed to feel sorry for her because she didn't manage to weasel another paid day off at the taxpayers' expense? Let's just forget about the fact that it remains a mystery as to why she needs the Monday off in the first place. Am I missing something here? Apparently her big argument was that she could have just called in sick but was trying to work it out the honest way. Wow that's really great of you teacher! Teacher or not, in what world does not lying and not manipulating, legitimately entitle you to the same payoff that would have gotten had you lied and manipulated? :L

Okay back on topic. Excited for hockey. I managed to catch a bit of a Q league pre-season game a few weeks ago. It was fun but had to leave early and half the players on each team were unlikely to make their teams this year. Going to another this Friday and I'm pretty pumped about it. Both teams should pretty much be down to their regular season rosters by then.

Also my birthday is this month. The previously mentioned teacher-girlfriend goes back to work this month, which means she can stop with the constant texts while I'm at work. So yeah, bring on September! :D
