I guess Holland found his pigeon after all.

Next up...Wings trade 3-4 round pick to the Iles for the rights to Nabby.

With Nathan Lawson getting injured last night & Ricky always day to day this makes a lot of sense.

When Nabokov is ready the Islanders will be able to send 20 year old Kevin Poulin back to Bridgeport for development purposes.

The best part of all is Detroit doesn't get him which lets be honest if not the Islanders I think Ottawa would have picked him up.

Okay. We seriously need an explanation for this move. 1. The chances of Nabby reporting to NYI aren't very good considering he was expecting to be in Detroit. 2. This move makes zero sense for the Isles in general. Why the heck pick up a goalie for a team that clearly has no chance at the playoffs, already has a "starter" in DiPietro, and on a contract that runs out this season. There's simply no foresight to the move at all. I can't sit here and say that this was part of the "plan" for the Isles, because I'd think I was lying. Just very odd.

I understand that for this point in the season it's a nice cheap fix, but as far as the future, there's just not a lot there. I'd assume at least.

Poulin is the future in net for the Isles. Ricky has a knee that swells up after every game. He has his own schedule. He doesn't practice followiing a start. Ricky can't be counted on to play regularly. They just don't know from day to day. If Nabokov reports the Isles will have some stability in goal for the rest of the season.

Whoa! It must of hurt them to have to spend such a low amount on a goalie!

I don't think Nabokov cares where he plays this season. He's using it as an audition for next year. Holland did Nabokov a huge favor in signing him and I'm guessing the reason is Holland wants him in Detroit next season, probably at a significant discount because of this move.

I heard rumours that this was the plan all along. Detroit signs him, and has a pre-arranged deal with a lower waiver team to get him and then trade him to Detroit for a pick.

Is that not possible? Would it be considered circumventing the CBA?

He can be traded, but Nabby has to agree to the trade and agree to the waivers he must be placed on BEFORE the trade. He has already stated that he will report with whoever picks him up.

Why would a team trade for him if he can be picked up off waivers?
