Islanders vs. Bertuzzi, a comparitive venture

I haven't read the entire GDT, so this may have been brought up already...

1) Goddard leaving the bench... Bertuzzi was the last I can recall being charged with that (even though he technically never made it to the bench)... 10 games automatically. hough given who was going after the goalie and the circumstances, imho that was the right thing for Godard to do.

2) Martin on Talbot... That was an IDENTICAL act to Bertuzzi on Moore. the outcome was different, of course, but it was the same thing. Sucker punch from behind during the play. It will be VERY interesting to see where the wheel of justice lands on this one.

i have to disagree with the act being identical to bertuzzi. martin never punched talbot from behind, he just pulled him down, its much less dangerous.

He didn't punch him because talbot heard him coming.

If Max hadn't reacted, he very likely would have been laid out.

I agree with you that it's still lightyears away from being a Bertuzzi-like incident, mainly because he didn't land the punch. But, the suspension should be hefty because his intent was clear, and he wasn't even jawing with Max, he just straight up attacked him, Max was just lucky it was directly from behind. The extra thing that made the Bertuzzi/Moore incident so horrible was Todd landing on him and driving his head into the ice.

ill be honest, i didnt see the game either i only saw the highlights so i could be off. i dont believe he punched him, only brought him down or talbot went down to avoid a hit. i could be wrong of course.

No, but it wasn't a 'nasty' punch. Basically it's not getting the same response because Max is okay (which is wrong...). But beyond the original act, he threw 4-6 punches to Max's neck/back area while he was down and turtled (which come on people, who wouldn't turtle there?).

I dont know why someone has to get seriously hurt in order for a serious suspension to be handed out. That is the way it seems to work though.

you know what? i missed it earlier when i saw the highlight, i didnt see martins hand come around and connect on the punch before. my apologies i was wrong, that was definitely a dirty dirty play and should be penalized heavily.

I don't think Talbot had but maybe a 1/2 second to react. Martin still got that punch to the face as he grabbed and turned Talbot to try to face him. He also got a couple more while Talbot was covering up.

the owners and gms dont want long suspensions for their players ... but whats worse is the nhlpa doesnt want long suspensions for its membership ... so if they dont care ... why should we as fans?

that was largely my point. looked to be a largely similar intent / action.
The difference was the outcome.... So I wonder how it will be treated.

I personally think Martin should get the gate for the remainder of the season. Of course, I'm a bit biased. However, the intent to severely injure is pretty clear. And, I think that will be recognized by Colin and his staff.

i dont really want to get into hashing out the bertuzzi/moore incident. it was brutal. that being said I hope no one looks at that the Pens player didnt get injured so its not as vicious. with the way the replays showed it looked really like vengence from that earlier game. with that evidence I would expect a suspension for a sucker punch and it was sucker. just because he didnt get hurt like moore it shouldnt be dealt with justly. but this is colin cambell we are talking about. there is no real justice in the NHL as that game showed. Goddard should get the minimum 10 games for leaving the bench and an extra 5 games for third man in. fucking total goon

If they give every 3rd man in 5 games last night then there wont be many players for the next 5
