I wish the NHL wasnt so concerned about the other leagues season starts ... Ideally they would start in early Sept but they dont want to because they feel they will get buried by the NFL and attendance in the US picks up after Christmas so they want more games scheduled after that date

Then in the final round they always look to the NBA playoffs to make sure they dont select game dates that are in conflict for the final round.

fuck it all !!! start in Sept and end in early May

^^^

There should be no NHL hockey played in the month of June period. They're not going to reduce the number of regular season games, thus start earlier (3rd week of Sept and wrap up the playoffs in the last week of May). It can be done.

I have a better question. Why is basketball in the SUMMER Olympics but played during the winter? If any sport should change it's schedule, it's basketball.

Because they know the basketball tournament would get destroyed by the hockey tournament from a ratings and interest perspective.

I would think with technology these days they could somehow duplicate exactly with the use of technology how ice is during the winter months. But with that said does that mean the Stanley cup series is played on lesser Ice then in the winte months as it is played in June?

I remember one time in particular, this is going back over a decade and I'm sure technology is better now, but in 2000 when the Devils and Stars played in Dallas I remember them constantly bringing up how much of an issue the ice was in the series. If a team like say Tampa Bay had made it this year there's no telling what the ice would be like. Plus the cost of maintaining the ice would increase dramatically.

here is another question. How many games a week do NHL teams typically play? And those who have played hockey how difficult is it to come back and play within either the next day or a few days later. Is it very fatiguing? I understand football taking a week off, but baseball goes back-back-back sometimes even two in the same day, which is very understantable. Basketball makes absolutely no sense on needing to take 3 sometimes 4 days off between games. These guys are pro athletes and many have grown up plying basketball in AAU where they will play 3 to 4 games in a single day. Wondering how hockey schedule sets up and how tiring and grueling a season must be. Hell I got ice skating for recreational fun once every 5 years and I am dead sore the next day.
