It would be advantageous to play the topspin especially in long rallies simply because it’s a safer high percentage shot to keep the ball inside the court but if you have the flat shot in your arsenal ( it’s just a matter of adjusting the grip ) you can end the points when you can displace your opponent enough to get the open court. On clay the topspin is better because of the high bounce it can cause that can displace your opponent behind the baseline unless he is tall and wants to end the point quickly then he will pounce on the high rise shot.I tend to like flatter shots, more than topspin, on most surfaces overall. Maybe clay would be different.
What do you think overall, about the two types of shots?
Mind you it’s hard to get to the flattening shot grip if you are hitting like thirty balls topspin and then want to end the point with the flat winner. Because unless you are a pro who has done thousands of drills like that your shot may end up landing outside the court if you don’t hit the ball right or have the exact grip adjustment to hit the flat ball.
Flat shots have lesser risk for injuries to your shoulders and elbows because there is less torque. Same with flat serves as opposed to kick serves. It’s good to have a balance of both.
