The COWBOYS are caught between a rock and a hard place........ just like my MLB team, the CHICAGO CUBS.
In the NFL, backing up the truck with high priced players ain't likely.
Do the COWBOYS have the ability to trade their high priced players for future draft picks? I doubt it.
And if we have the draft picks, who is doing the drafting?

DeMarcus Lawrence ......contract expires 2024 .....$.25,000,000 contract in 2021....... avg per year $21,000,000 .......Potential Buy Out after 2021.

Amari Cooper...........contract expires 2024......about $20,000,000 avg. per year through 2024......PBO after 2021

Tyron Smith..........contract expires 2023.....about $12,200,000 avg. per year through 2023

Ezekiel Elliot.........contract expires 2026........about $15,000,000 avg. per year through 2026.....PBO after 2022

Zac Martin.......contract expires 2024.........about $14,000,000 avg. per year through 2024

Jaylin Smith.....contract expires 2025..........about $11,400,000 avg. per year through 2025...........PBO after 2021

La'el Collins..........contract expires 2024.....about $10,000,000 avg. per year through 2024......PBO after 2021

And this brings up the point, do you spend $40,000,000 avg. per year in a contract, for four or five years, for Dak Presscott? (with a rebuilding project)

And by the way, Michael Gallup is making $880,995 this season. COWBOYS have one more year of control with Michael.

Yes.
You pay your Franchise QB
Of all these guys you listed it might very well be Zac Martin as the only we resign long term. (or extend)
Everyone remembers going from Romo to Dak, but everyone is forgetting how long it takes usually.
Staubach to Aikman or Aikman to Romo.
If you have a true Franchise QB you keep him. They are harder to find than people are willing to believe)
A fringe Franchise QB you might go the route I believe you are suggesting.

I wasn't suggesting anything. I just proposed the question.
a $40,000,000 QB with a $1.25 OLine. ................a defense that has very little talent.........a questionable coaching staff.
And what have the COWBOYS done with Dak Prescott?........
2016.....13 wins 3 losses..........lost divisional round
2017.....9 Wins 7 losses
2018.....10 wins 6 losses.......... post season ......1 win 1 loss
2019.......8 wins 8 losses
2020.........1 win 3 losses......should have been 4 losses

And I'm not totally blaming Dak.

My question was.........do you allocate that much money for one player, when the rest of the team stinks?
Or do the COWBOYS, follow the New England Patriot's formula?

I like building a team with having a great Oline and Dline

I do too. but the Patriots formula was to keep their Franchise QB.
BTW I wasnt suggesting you were blaming Dak. I figured you were wondering why pay top dollar for a QB on a low end team. My answer is still yes.
You always pay a Quality Franchise QB, or you will always be rebuilding.
As far as the trenches. You should always be drafting for that every year. Even when you have a quality Line. Which honestly we had been doing, just missed in the draft on some of them.

The Patriots Also seemed to also use high picks on corner backs, but rarely on receivers.

All depends what they do with Dak. Giving Dak $40M per year and rebuilding would be asinine. Letting Dak go and not rebuilding might be even dumber.

so you sign Dak and make a few changes or you let Dak go and blow the whole thing up because if you let Dak go you most likely aren't good anyway next year. I think with a top 5 pick in the first 3 rounds you can go either way. You can draft or move up for a QB and still add other players and use Dak’s $40M to fill a bunch of holes via FA. If it’s me and I can somehow get Lawrence It’s a no brainer to grab him. Having a potential top 5 QB for dirt cheap that you can build around would be amazing and we probably could win a crappy NFCE next year that way. But, assuming you don’t get Lawrence I probably sign Dak and use those early picks to bring in 2 or 3 real good players. Then this offseason or next I get rid of Jaylon and Cooper and some others and use their money elsewhere. Dak has shown his value in his absence and I hope no Cowboy fan is ever again dumb enough to say this offense revolves around Zeke. assuming we have better health next year, with Dak we are a couple offensive lineman away from a top offense and one of those is likely just Collins being healthy - obviously counting on Smith To be 100% for 16 games would be stupid but maybe he plays half the year and is healthy if we make the playoffs? Then you just use all your other picks and FAs on Defense and with Diggs and maybe some other kids like Wilson getting better and more consistent you can build an average defense which may be enough to compete for playoff wins.

Sad but true

They were talking about this today on local sports talk. Nobody thought Jerry would tear it down with a total rebuild. Many said he's making shit loads of cash hanging out at 8-8.

I'd like to see this team get a top 5 draft pick. I think the best hope would couple this past draft with a killer draft in 21 and hope for reasonable health next season.

Build on or blow it up. If you look at the team foundation which to me is the OL, DL,QB. Well this year we have cracks in the foundation at all 3 spots our Oline needs 2 players to come back healthy and we need to Add a G and solid OT backup. DL needs a middle rebuild and our QB needs to comeback from injury And is expected to receive a major contract upgrade.
now for the rest of the team we need linebackers and 3 new players for the DB
So depending on your assessment of the foundation will determine the way to go.
So if we are drafting top 5 you could go several ways depending who is on the board when we pick.
I want to wait to see how the season plays out for draft position. And while I will be rooting for the team to win I want a high draft position to help my team going forward.

It's been time to rebuild from the people making decisions at the top for almost 30 years.

We just need a GM. The sooner Cowboy fans and the media start holding Jerry accountable and stop blaming other parts of the team, the better. This is why Jerry always gets passes, because everybody else gets blamed but him. We been worse than the Arizona Cardinals for the last 25 years and there's only been one constant in that time period.

I don't know, Earl... I think most (certainly not all) Cowboys fans have figured out that until Jerry does something different, it's going to just be the same old shit year after year. Bigger issue - he doesn't care what anyone thinks and as long as he can put butts in the seats of the Death Star, he will just press on. He's not going to look at this year as an excuse to change - he's leading the league in attendance.

Jerry is talking up Armstrong like he is a superstar. He has like no sacks and one QB hit on the season.

Heard the perfect description of Jerry today on the radio. Jerry is in the entertainment business.

He was on the the Fan Friday saying Jaylon & Elliott have done a great job and he wouldn't change either of the extensions if he had the opportunity.

Yep but when he came on a noon show in Dallas 2 days later he would not talk about the Cowboy. I am for damn sure not saying he is wrong.

Beasley is an idiot. Another guy who chirps non-stop. But I’m sure there is some truth to what he’s saying. But nothing we don’t already know.
