Iowa Hawkeyes looking for a splash in recruiting - On The Trail - ESPN
By Tom VanHaaren
The Iowa Hawkeyes always seem to quietly go about their business, land recruits at their own pace and end up with a solid class. That looks to be the case with 2016, as Iowa has four commitments thus far.
Biggest commit this spring: DE Cedrick Lattimore
Iowa landed Lattimore and teammate Chauncey Golston on the same day. The Hawkeyes had success in the past with Detroit defensive prospects, most recently with tackle Carl Davis. Lattimore might not equal what Davis did on the field, but he is likely Iowa’s best commit so far from the spring.
How the class is shaping up: Iowa also has running back Toren Young and quarterback Nate Stanley committed. Those are some good pieces and a good foundation to build on heading into camp season. Iowa is never really flashy with its recruiting classes, and this one seems to be on the same track as always.
What they need to do next: Iowa has some bigger targets still on its board, so it would go a long way to add even one of those names to the class in the next few months. Whether it’s running back Barrington Wade, Bubba Ogbebor or Nick Niemann, getting a few more prospects in the short term would help recruiting through the summer. If the staff could convince some of the really big names including Matt Farniok or Daniel Joseph to jump on board, it would be icing on the cake.
