If one examines the 2017 Boise State football team's recruiting class there is really only one word that describes that recruiting class for Boise State - that being disappointing. Here's a breakdown of which of the commits for Boise State in 2017 who are no longer on the team. After detailing those who are no longer on the Boise State football team I will list those who remain on the team. These 2017 Boise State signees will be listed here in order of how highly ranked their were in 2017 by the 247 Sports.com website:

NO LONGER ON THE TEAM
1. Jermani Brown - CB - Rated on 247Sports.com at 0.8919 - He was the highest rated 2017 signee for Boise State in 2017. He was redshirted during the 2017 season and then unexpectedly left Boise State's football team in October 2018. He had played in ZERO games during the 2017 and 2018 Boise State football season and obviously had no stats either. He transferred to Iowa Western Community College. However a check of the current team roster for Iowa Western Community College does not list him. That MAY be that their team roster has not been updated since last fall tho.

2. Isiah Moore - OL - J.C. transfer from Mesa Community College. Rated on 247Sports.com at 0.8731 in 2017. He was redshirted in 2017 and played in only 5 games in 2018 (as a backup lineman). He then graduated from Boise State this spring despite the fact that he still had a year of eligibility left.

3. Breydon Boyd - LB - Rated on 247Sports.com at 0.8365. He was also redshirted during the 2017 season at Boise State. He unexpectedly left the Boise State football team after the 2018 Spring Semester. No reason was given for his departure but speculation as to the reason why he left centered around the fact that his hometown in Texas was heavily impacted by Hurricane Harvey in August of 2017 and it is thought that Boyd left to help his family. It appears he has given up playing football as I can find no record of him playing anywhere last fall. There has been no activity on his Twitter account since June 27, 2018.

4. Drake Beasley - RB - Rated on 247Sports.com at 0.8311. Beasley was at Boise State for the 2017 season but he was redshirted that season. He left Boise State after the spring 2018 semester. Even tho he had the most carries in the 2018 Boise State spring football game (8 carries for 19 yards and 1 reception for 3 yards). He then transferred to Pasadena City College in Pasadena, CA. He played for Pasadena C.C. last fall and played in 5 games. He was their 4th leading rusher last season with 57 carries for 281 yards (4.9 yard average) and 3 Touchdowns.

5. Michael Young - Safety - J.C. transfer from Dodge City Community College. Rated on 247Sports.com at 0.8267 in 2017. Young played in 3 games in 2017 but was arrested in late September of 2017 for D.U.I. and one week after his arrest he was suspended from Boise State team activities in early October of 2017. What he has done since then I do not know.

6. Mike Young - OL - Rated by 247Sports.com at 0.8079. Technically he was not a part of the 2017 Boise State recruiting class as he never signed with Boise State due to being academically inelgible. However he was a verbal commit for Boise State and he was the lone 2017 verbal commit who was not signed on the February 2017 Letter of Intent signing day.

7. Rathen Ricedorff - QB - J.C. transfer from Mesa Community College in Arizona. He was rated in 2017 by 247Sports.com at 0.8042. He self-reported himself as testing positive for P.E.D.'s in April 2017. He left the Boise State program at that time and transferred to Weber State - where he was redshirted in the fall of 2017 and then played in 3 games in 2018. He graduated from Weber State this spring.

8. Zach Troughton - OL - J.C. transfer from Butte College in California. Rated by 247Sports.com at 0.7993 in 2017. He played in only 1 game in 2017 and 10 games in 2018 - primarily on special teams and when Boise State utilized their "Jumbo" package on the offensive line. He started zero games in his two years at Boise State.

9. Brandon Heicklen - Punter - Rated on 247Sports.com at 0.7300. Heicklen was signed by Boise State in 2017 as a Preferred Walk-on so including him here is a bit inaccurate. Heicklen left the Boise State football team after the 2017 Spring Semester and he transferred to San Diego State. He has been San Diego State's starting punter since then. He has punted 127 times for San Diego State in 2017 and 2018 and is almost certainly going to be their starting punter next fall (as a Senior).

10. Joseph Inda - LB - He was not rated by 247Sports.com in 2017. He was a late J.C. transfer from Golden West College in California. Inda played in 4 games in 2017 and 6 games in 2018 primarily on special teams. He had 0 tackles in 2017 and 3 tackles in 2018.

STILL ON THE BOISE STATE FOOTBALL TEAM

1. Chase Cord - QB - Rated in 2017 on 247Sports.com at 0.8550 - Cord is now a RS Sophomore for the 2019 season. He was redshirted in 2017 and played in 4 games last fall as the back-up QB to Brett Rypien in 2018. He suffered a season-ending injury in his 4th last October.

2. Octavius Evans - WR - Rated in 2017 on 247Sports.com at 0.8550. Evans is now listed on the 2019 Boise State football team roster as a Junior. He played in all 14 games in 2017, including one start, and he had 15 catches in 2017 for 131 yards (8.73 yard avg) and 2 TD's. He was the 7th leading receiver that season for Boise State. He played in only 5 games in 2018 due to injuries. He started 1 game in 2018. He had only 2 catches last fall for 12 yards.

3. C. T. Thomas - WR - Rated in 2017 on 247Sports.com at 0.8544. Thomas has played in every Boise State football game since arriving here in 2017 (27 games total). He is the only returning WR starter for Boise State for the 2019 season.

4. Ezekiel Noa - LB - Rated in 2017 on 247Sports.com at 0.8481. He was redshirted in 2017 and played in 10 games for Boise State last fall - including starting 3 games at WLB after Riley Whimpey went down with an injury. He had 34 total tackles in 2018.

5. Aisa Kelemete - DE - Rated in 2017 on 247Sports.com at 0.8479. He was redshirted in 2017 and did not play at all in 2018 due to injuries.

6. Marques Evans - CB - Rated in 2017 on 247Sports.com at 0.8344. He too was redshirted in 2017 and he played in only one game in 2018.

7. Damon Cole - WR - Rated in 2017 on 247Sports.com at 0.8321. He too was redshirted in 2017 and he too also played in only one game in 2018.

8. Tyreque Jones - Safety - Rated in 2017 on 247Sports.com at 0.8254. He too was redshirted in 2017 and played in all 13 games in 2018 including 4 starts. He finished last season with 33 total tackles.

9. John Ojukwu - OT - Rated in 2017 on 247Sports.com at 0.8213. He too was redshirted in 2017 and he played in 12 of 13 games last fall for Boise State including starting 7 games at Right Tackle.

10. Roman Kafentzis - SLB - Rated in 2017 on 247Sports.com at 0.8072. He was also redshirted in 2017 and he played in 9 games in 2018. He was recorded as having made only 1 tackle last season.

11. Benton Wickersham - LB - He was not rated by 247Sports.com in 2017. He played in all 14 games for Boise State in 2017 including one start and he made 16 total tackles in 2017. In 2018 he again played in every (13) game for Boise State and made 1 start at MLB. He had 19 total tackles in 2018.

What a mess. At least some of the guys who stuck are pretty studly. For me Ojukwu and Noa definitely come to mind. Those dudes are bad asses. I’m hoping Wickersham doesn’t see the field much if at all this season. I know we are thin at LB but that kid sucks. And I hate saying that because I’ve read some articles about him growing up in Nevada being a die hard Boise fan who’s dream was to be a Bronco.

A mess is a good description. It's pretty bad when your recruiting class includes 21 players and two years later only 7 of them have contributed anything to your football program. In the case of Boise State's 2017 recruiting class those 7 are QB - Chase Cord (played in 4 games), WR Octavius Evans (played in 19 games in 2 years), WR C. T. Thomas (played in 27 games in 2 years), LB Ezekiel Noa (played in 10 games), Safety Tyreque Jones (played in 13 games), OT John Ojukwu (played in 12 games) and LB Benton Wickersham (played in all 27 games in 2017 & 2018). And one of the two who has played in all 27 games in 2017 and 2018 - that being Benton Wickersham - came to Boise State as a walk-on (but was quickly put on scholarship in 2017).

Why in the world did we waste Evans’ sophomore year? He wasn’t right all season and we brilliantly played him 5 games instead of 4 and took a year away from him. Stupid.
