Summary: James looking good, not even a limp. Seems to be fine. Jacobs: Possibility of playing in the season opener. Nothing serious.
Coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that running back Brandon Jacobs is a “possibility” to play in the Sept. 9 season opener at Green Bay, assuming his left knee responds well in the coming weeks after Saturday night’s undisclosed injury.
Harbaugh gave no further updates on Jacobs, although a league source confirmed Sunday that an MRI revealed no major damage to Jacobs’ knee.
Harbaugh stood by what he called a “real accurate” post-game assessment from the 49ers medical staff (no ACL or patella tears), which he relayed to reporters after Saturday’s 20-9 defeat in Houston.
Jacobs, sporting crutches, said: “I’m doing alright. Can’t complain.”
Fellow running back LaMichael James also said he’s doing well, and he showed no signs at all of a fourth-quarter ankle injury that required him to be carted into the X-ray room.
James vowed after the game to practice Monday, and Harbaugh would not reveal James’ status for this afternoon’s session. Last Thursday marked the final full practice of training camp, and media will only be allowed to watch players for some 30 minutes today or until team drills begin, per their regular-season rules.
