Brief injury updates
Posted by: Steve Sipple on September 5, 2010 at 12:30PM CST
Nebraska junior right tackle Marcel Jones, projected as the starter, sat out Saturday night with a sore back, according to Husker head coach Bo Pelini.
"He was available to play, but we didn't want to use him unless we had to," the coach said.
Senior D.J. Jones started in Marcel's place, and redshirt freshman Jeremiah Sirles saw time at RT in addition to starting at LT.
Starting defensive end Cameron Meredith left the game with two minutes left in the first half and didn't return. Pelini indicated Meredith's injury might not be serious. "He's OK," the coach said.
Husker defensive coordinator Carl Pelini shed a little light on starting linebacker Will Compton's foot injury, which occurred Thursday in practice and has the sophomore sidelined indefinitely.
"It really is just a healing process, and it's kind of a wide, wide range of time," Carl said when asked about the timetable for Compton's return.
