The Bears signed a LB and moved a LB up from the practice squad... Found that odd, but so be it. Shea is out this coming week. Also, it is looking like both Conte and Mundy are playing along with Allen. Trestman said he was not optimistic about center Roberto Garza and left guard Matt Slauson returning to practice this week. The Bears released Tony Fiammetta on an injury settlement to make room for the LB the Bears signed. This is odd because it now leaves the Bears with 2... 2, just 2 TE's and no FB or H-Back on the roster.

Injuries...and we haven't been running the ball well to begin with.

Also, I would count Britton as a 3rd TE moreso than an OT with the way he is used in the offense.

Weird but with Emory the roster is sure to change again. Weekly is the norm now.

From Bears website:
Sharpton was selected by the Texans in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Miami. The 5-11, 235-pounder appeared in 42 games with 19 starts over four seasons with Houston, recording 144 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, one sack and one interception and 17 special-teams tackles.

Bears linebackers coach Reggie Herring served as Sharpton’s position coach with the Texans from 2011-13. Sharpton was cut by the Redskins on Monday after spending the first three weeks of the season on injured reserve with a sprained ankle he sustained in August.

Sounds promising- and obviously recommended by his position coach. It could mean that Shea is more injured then they originally thought... and be out longer. I have no problem adding LB's over TE's. Special Teams help.

To me, the McClellin injury should be fairly inconsequential. Bostic played WAY better at SLB and should continue to start after SheaMac can play.

But that's just me.

Damn. Sucks about Fiammetta. He was a good blocker. Just can't stay on the field.

Shea played well vs SF. Very well.

"WAY" better is a pretty big overstatement.

bears are more comfortable with the jumbo packages with the additional offensive end.

I would like this to open some more attempts for KaDeem Carey. Two carries in three games blows. Last week Forte did nothing on the ground and they abandoned it.

Better yet, what about Forte and Carey in the backfield at the same time?

I bet the bear defense is just glad we dont have another read option offense to go against. Wondering if three in a row might have them out of sorts for a "regular" offense.

Yes, Forte did nothing, and Carey probably would have done less. There isn't a running back alive who could have found running room in either of the last two games. Our line has been completely blown to pieces in run blocking the last two weeks. That isn't even near Forte's fault.

Stats for SheaMac's 2 games...
4 tackles, 1 assist, 1 sack, 0 PDs

Jon Bostic's stats for the Jets game alone...
6 tackles, 7 assists, 0 sacks, 2 PDs

Of course, Bostic played in both regular and nickel packages. So theoretically, since it's roughly half and half, each player would have equal numbers of plays. To say that SheaMac played "very well" with 3 tackles against SF is a stretch, although the sack really helped.

Another advantage of playing Bostic there is that there is less situation substitution. All the Bears have to do to switch from regular to nickel is swap Williams for Frey. With SheaMac starting, he also has to sub out for Bostic.

I'll take Bostic.

Give me Bostic in the middle and Shea outside. Send DJ to the bench. Bostic is ahead of Shea. But Shea is just starting to get his feet wet. I'm starting to like both and see a good future. Shea is faster and better at blitzing. He'll continue to improve if left in. Bostic has really impressed me overall. Just get him on the field.

I'm pretty certain the Bears game-planned that knowing the Jets defensive backfield was pretty banged up.

Bears would have been completely dumb to continually run into a brick wall and not take advantage of the Jets most glaring weakness.

Darned straight. Even in the first game before the injuries we weren't running well either. I don't believe that Forte suddenly forgot how. Our OL is just geared more for pass blocking.

I'm calling it now... Shea will move to MLB, Christian Jones as Strong... and Bostic will take over for Briggs in 2015.

Briggs has played really well the past two weeks, but I believe this is the last year on his deal. Don't know if they will offer a Tillman like contract for one more season, but could see that.

Interesting that Greene has somewhat disappeared when discussing the LB core. Also, the latest news is Jared Allen is sick and asked to stay away from Halas Hall until better. Sure bet he will play on Sunday, but hope he does so at the top of his game not as an invalid.

I saw the injury report after todays practice and saw 5 Bear players listed as out for the game on Sunday.

Which do you feel is the most important one to not have playing?

Garza, McClellin, McManis,Ratliff, or Slauson?

Personally, I would say Slauson since the drop off between he and Ola may be a bit bigger. But it is close with Ratliff... I like our rookie DTs a lot, but to have one more quality vet rotating with them would be key with Eddie Lacy on the docket. Brian De la Puenta has been playing very well at C and Bostic had a very good week being able to play snaps at SLB without looking over his shoulder... so I'm less concerned about Garza and McClellin although with Shea, it would be nice to have one more LB type on special teams.

Slauson is the only one that hurts.

Bostic >McClellin (most feel)

De Le Puente has all but beat out Garza. He can take his time getting healthy.

McManis is our 4th corner (Fuller and Jennings start, Frey at Nickel). I mean, depth is nice, especially when you have injuries, but he wouldn't generally be on the field.

Ratliff is good, but our Dline depth has been great.

Ola has filled in serviceably enough, but Slauson is good. Ola struggles at times. Clear drop in the Buffalo game after Slauson went down, and at times in the NY/SF games as well.

Ratliff for me. Slauson a very close second. Ratliff has been playing great and inspiring the rookie DTs. Slauson is important for getting our run game going. I want Shea back so Bostic can get back in the middle.
